Sheen, "voluntarily enters rehab center"

They could always jump the show ahead in time 30 years and recast with Martin Sheen and Alan Alda.

They could attempt a mini-arc without Charlie to see if it floats. Have him leave for vacation at the beginning of an episode, have him only leave voicemail messages for the episodes he's not in, then have him return at the end of an episode. Not sure if Jon Cryer would be carrying the show or if they'd have to bulk up a few of the supporting roles.

I guess 2.5 Men is done (production wise) for the season as Dumb Ass is going into 3 months of rehab. I wonder how many episodes they have in the can?

I'm also reminded of comments by producers (or maybe CBS officials) from a week or so ago about how Dumb Ass is a professional and always does his job. How's that working out for you?

What would you have them do? Up until this moment he WAS showing up to work. He was doing his job. And it's not like they can FORCE him to go to rehab. They can ask, but...

He makes them a TON of money. A TON. Even while in rehab he will still be making them a ton of money through reruns and syndication.

So, it's working out for them pretty well.

I used to really like Charlie Sheen back in the day when he was an actor before all this hysteria. While I'm sure a lot of actors or other celebrities or even just wealthy folks are seriously involved in all this sex, drugs, and rock and roll, I feel that the media has really used Sheen's issues to its advantage. Every news show has to talk about this, and Two and a Half Men didn't care what he did so long as he could show up to work and have a hit show.

I certainly wouldn't say the media is exploiting Sheen- if he doesn't want to be exploited then he shouldn't be involved in such scandalous stuff, but we sort of condone the behavior is a lot of ways by watching and seemingly cheering on his pimp status. When Robert Downey Jr first got heavy he was popular and made a lot of shows- until his behavior got so ridiculous it wasn't worth putting up with him on set. What happened to him after no one would bother and looked away? He got straight and is bigger now than ever.

Eh, it goes both ways, I mean. We feed Sheen and he feeds us. I'm glad he's in rehab again and maybe will be well for awhile again. He had a few good years there. But see, when he was healthy and happy and marriage to Denise Richards, no one cared because it wasn't as juicy.

Uh,

I wouldn't have them do anything. Just making an observation. I just love this bulletin board, and how people like argue for the fun of arguing.

Well, you DO sort of call the producers out, like they made a bad decision, you know, "How's that working out for you?" So, I was wondering what YOU would have them do?

I just love this bulletin board, you call someone out on their BS and they get all defensive....

It was a little joke, I wasn't calling out anybody. And the only thing I"m defensive about is I'm getting sick and tired people sniping over ever little silly comment that doesn't mean a goddamn thing. I don't care if you disagree, but do without the attitude.

And for the record, I disagree with the producers over him being "professional." It is NOT professional to engage in the kind of behavior he does, when said behavior endangers the livelihoods of his fellow cast and the production crew. When you're at that level of compensation and importance to the business, you have a professional and personal responsibility to the co-workers around you to NOT get yourself in these kind of situations.

For an ordinary person like me, if I do something stupid and can't make it to work, they can just replace me and life goes on. For Charlie Sheen and the producers/CBS, that's a much harder task and probably can't be done (at least not and still be this successful).

Can the producers do anything about it? Well no not right now, it's too late for that. They should have thought of this when they gave him his big contract. So no I wouldn't have them DO anything, because there's nothing they can do.

EDIT TO ADD: You know what? Life is too short. Snipe away if it floats your boat, I'll just put you on ignore. Perhaps you should do the same to me.

Could they call in Michael J Fox to stand in for a few episodes?

I was thinking about this earlier and whether they could come up with another actor to fill in and a plausible story line. (Actually rehab for Charlie Harper would probably work  ) But if they did get somebody like this, how would it work with premise of the show? Seems like that would be kind of hard to pull off.

I can see them maybe making an episode without Charlie, but I'm not sure how long it would be before Cryer's character just got too annoying to bear.

Sounds like CBS isn't interested in trying to finish the rest of this season without Sheen from the information provided in this thread. I wouldn't mind seeing them try it just for some variety, but I don't know that the remaining characters are enough to carry the show. Sheen's absence is more akin to Three's Company losing John Ritter rather than Suzanne Somers who could be replaced. And no, I'm not saying Sheen is anywhere near the actor Ritter was but they're both equally integral parts of their shows.

Two and a Half Men without Charlie Sheen would probably be as disastrous as NewsRadio was without Phil Hartman. Not that I think Sheen is anywhere near the level Hartman was on, but without him, Two and a Half Men is nothing.

Agreed.

And Lorre, when Sheen was in rehab before, didn't want to do episodes without him and seems to be doing the same thing this time.

The guy just wants to booze it up and hork down piles of blow in a mansion full of porn stars.

I don't see what the big deal is.

Okay, seriously. Cocaine is really bad for you.

Bring in Emilio as a half Brother that Charlie & Alan's late father sired on the side?

Emilio already played his best friend in one episode, who then died from a heart attack. ;)
I doubt that will matter to most viewers. The show ain't that deep. :D

Didn't the actress who played Chelsea appear previously on the show as a different character? Or was that actually supposed to be Chelsea's first appearance? I don't believe they actually referred to her by name in her first appearance.

That's Jennifer Taylor and according to imdb.com she's played 4 different characters on Two and a Half Men. Three of those characters appeared only one time. The last time was just two years before she showed up as Chelsea.
