difficulties with video ads on this site?

sometimes when I'm here there are video ads with moving images and sound that make this site freeze or go very slowly for me. Does this have to do with my computer being old and slow? Is it time to get rid of the Commodore 64 and get a newer one?

The Prodigy online access might be slowing you down as well (if you were claiming you were using an Apple //e I would blame it on Apple online).

It's hard to offer much advice without information like you systems real hardware specifications (clock speed, memory size), bandwidth (bits per second) and name/versions of your web browser.

Associated with memory size is how many background processes and/or other applications are running on your system, including some of the brand name security suites that aren't designed with adequate consideration for how much of the system resources they use. A sure symptom of excess background applications or inadequate memory is frequent hard drive activity when switching applications or even switching tasks within an application.

Since ads help the management here recover the expenses associated with running the board, discussion of most ad blocking technology is taboo here. The exception to the rule is the NoScript add-on which blocks many ad sounds and animations/videos without blocking static text and graphic advertisements. NoScript can be configured to allow the board's scripts while blocking scripts from the advertiser's domains. I'm using the Firefox browser and am not certain there's an equivalent script blocker for Internet Explorer or Safari.
