Worst Spoiler Experience?

I have to admit I accidentally blurted out a spoiler on these boards once, I think cos America had delayed the final episodes of some show (BSG?) but the UK had already screened them.

Can't remember what it was. Might have been about the Basestar getting nuked.

sorry. i just thought i couldnt believe they would do such an obvious twist. i'm just glad i wasnt paying.

about 5 mins into Shutter Island i loudly said the most obvious cliche twist i could think of: 'i bet diCaprio's crazy and there never was a murder'. half the cinema groaned.

I called that ending when I saw the trailer. It was just too obvious.

When ROTS came out I told a fellow geek that hadn't seen it "...hey so they revealed that the Emperor was Darth Vaders father...".

I had to join the witness protection program but meh - worth it.

I love spoilers and they don't bother me one bit because usually the spoilers aren't very detailed and I still enjoy watching the movie to see how what I learned about came about.

When we saw Empire Strikes Back, at the moment the "bounty hunter" enters Jabba's throne room to free Han, the guy in front of us (who'd seen it already) said to his girlfriend, "That's princess Leiah in disguise."
:klingon:

Ever look at a soap opera magazine? They're nothing but spoilers and they spell out everything that happens weeks at a time. Why would anyone want to know everything in advance?

I haven't seen all of Buffy yet and a lot of the major events in that are liberally tossed out in a lot of threads and articles.

Well, the show did end 8 years ago.

True, I don't really cry foul on that one.

It does bring up an interesting idea though, can things become "respoilable" after some time? Like do the young'uns all know, for example, the ending of Planet of the Apes and Soylent Green as a given?

^ The studio that made Planet of the Apes had no problem with spoiling everyone who bought or rented the Beta, VHS, Laserdisc or DVD.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Some of the worst offenders on this BBS are the avatars members use.

I go out of my way to avoid trailers since they are so spoiler heavy and then I come here and see material from the trailers in the form of animated avatars. Argh! :brickwall:

You can turn avatars off, actually. I do, and it makes my browsing experience so much better.

Though admittedly, for me, it's because I despite animated avatars with a passion, but there you go. ;)

I still like avatars because I can usually identify who has made a particular post very quickly just by glancing at their avatar. So I guess I will live with the potential of being spoiled every so often.

Return of the Jedi. Get it right

/Nerdrage/

The Tenth Doctor's death and regeneration.

"He will knock four times..."

There was way too much press on his departure and the naming of his replacement. So, during "The End of Time" I was just waiting to see which trauma actually triggered the regeneration.

I did like the swerve with the Master randomly knocking 4 times on various things.

The 1701-D saucer entering the atmosphere in the trailer for Generations. Made it fucking obvious they were destroying her.

They actually show the stardrive section blowing up in the trailer. Look at 1:55:

My own worst spoiler experience was with Farscape. Just after the final four episodes of Season 3 aired in the UK, some idiot posting on Sci Fi's messageboard repeatedly posted huge spoilers in thread titles just to tick everyone off.....giving away both the major character death in 3x21, and the big secret that's revealed in the closing minute of 3x22.

Someone mentioned one Serenity death, so I expected it (it was the first death). The second one completely caught me by surprise.

I was walking out of the opening screening of "The Search For Spock" with a friend who suddenly had the idea of a fake spoiler -- we were led past the crowd waiting to come in to see it and he yelled "Darth Vader is Luke's father!" just to confuse people -- one woman in the front row saw him yelling and put her fingers in her ears just in case. :D

^I have to say some of the worst offenders for spoilers are trailers. They just give away too damn much now.
 They always did. No need to romanticize a spoiler-free past you only assume existed.

And hell, I saw PJ's Kong first too, but how could one not know how it ends? :wtf: ;)

Not going to argue. At this point, It was his sled. :shifty:

Worst spoiler for me was my own damn fault, Book's and Wash's deaths. After that, also my own damn fault, was the following:

Count Vorkosigan sir?

I highlighted a spoiler-marked entry at tvtropes a few months before it came out, and kicked myself for the entirety of those few months. :scream:
