Fitness Checkin

    Wow! Go, RAMA! :)

    I'm all recovered from my various minor surgeries (no more heartburn - YAY!) and the best part is I lost a ton of weight while recovering, pretty much without effort. (Stomach surgery will do that for you.) And now that I'm feeling fine, I've started walking again. I'm up to 5 miles and I'm ready to do 10K on my next walk.

    I was all set to start weightlifting at the gym again, and I did something nasty to my shoulder while reaching for a high shelf at work. :( So I think I'll wait a week to make sure I don't aggravate a rotator cuff or something. Meanwhile I'm trying to do plenty of stretching and some abs work, which is never a bad idea. :)

    As always, I get into an awesome routine and start seeing results, and then I get sick. I'm pretty sure I am incapable of working out for more than 2 weeks without something happening to me to ruin all of my progress.

    I finished a bulk a few weeks ago (got up to 265 at 6') and am cutting down. For some reason i just don't look as muscular as you...I mean people see me as big, but I seem to look like a goon is all.:)
    Sure my lifts got better, as when you're eating anything you want, even triple cheeseburgers from McDonald's then lifting heavy gets easy, but I didn't get the look I was after.

    There I can see where my problem is...my best bench is not a one-rep max but it's only 295 for 5.

    Why is that a problem? I'm only concerned with the one rep max because I only get to this strength level about once every 2 years so I'm testing myself..no one needs to do a one rep max. You can calculate possible one rep max based on a particular weight you can do for reps.

    Hey I missed this post somehow last time...

    I think what you are experiencing is genetics...your "body type" is endomorphic...that is: predisposed to gaining wait and having a softer appearance. Its actually my body type too, and it takes extra hard work and dieting to get leaner. Still, you do look like you're in shape and most people would notice all the hard work you put in! Congrats!

    Hey, fellow fitness chickens! I'm finally getting back to exercising after a few months of illness & injury recovery. I walked 10k yesterday, which felt really good. My daughter went back to college and left me her gym membership, so I've started going again. This place is great! Much better than the YMCA I used to go to. And as part of the new member orientation you get three visits with a personal trainer. Awesome. :)

    On my first visit he showed me about half of the machines in the circuit, and led me through some boxing for aerobics. It was a blast! The guy has been a professional kickboxer and cage fighter, so he's really into this stuff. It was great fun for this 50-year-old lady to get all hot and sweaty punching the hell out of a cute fit young guy. :lol: I'm going back tomorrow for session #2. Should be fun!

    ^Sounds like a good time.

    For 2011, I am putting a much greater emphasis on my legs on shoulders, which have always kind of fallen to the wayside in favor of other muscles. So far so good. I did legs on Monday and Friday last week, and I already want to do them again.

    It is my goal for 2011 to finally have a decent butt. :lol:

    My fitness regime will be on strengthening my legs and also working on cardio...I do competitive swimming and I also do taekwondo. Going for my black belt in december so I need to build my leg muscles and arm muscles...also improve my flexibliity...for that I am going back to Zumba classes..:techman:

    I'm leaving on a 5k walk ... any minute now. ;)

    I think I overdid my last session with the trainer. My left shoulder is killing me today, and the tendinitis in my right elbow is bothering me again. Luckily he called to postpone the third session until Thursday night. I'm hoping I'll feel better by then.

    I seem to be incapable of participating in any sort of serious exercise without injuring myself. It's pretty discouraging. Getting old sucks!

    I really fucked up my shoulder a couple weeks ago, so I have barely been able to work out. I've screwed up my shoulders before, but normally they heal in a couple days. This just seems to be getting worse, and it's affecting my entire arm. It's so annoying.

    I didn't even realize this thread was here... It'd give me a good place to post my daily routine :)

    Today I did biceps, forearms, quads and cardio - and tested out on overhead military press. 95 lbs, 5 reps. I don't keep a log anymore so I don't have the exact sets... I did for awhile but I can keep it in my head now. I know I preacher curled up to 85 for a 5 rep burn out set. Jumped on the elliptical, first time I'd used one of those in quite some time... supposedly burned 589 calories in 60 minutes. Pushed personal leg press max back up to 250. Used to be 375 once upon a time but I quit leg lifting for a very long time throughout Marine Corps training, just did lots a running, so I lost mass.

    Anyway, tomorrow's supposed to be Crossfit Abs and upper back.

    It lasted about 2 weeks. Then I moved and fucked it up again. :lol:

    I've only worked out 3 times in the last month and a half, and now I'm sick. Ugh.

    Yay! I did heavy chest and back today and my shoulder didn't bother me at all!

    However, I seem to have bruised my tailbone, but I have absolutely no idea how or when.

    I did some heavy core lifting today. I like oblique cable crunches and lat pull with a box grip.

    Oh and I pushed my leg press up from 250 to 315 over about a week and a half. I'd like to hit 350 in about 2 more weeks.
