Best TNG books?

I recently got really into trek literature and a local book store has alot of trek books for $2.50 so i have been going nuts. But i have found that not all of the books are good. Q in Law had a terrible beginning and end but for 200 hundred pages had me laughing out loud about every 2 pages. And i have repeatedly tried to read Perchance to Dream but the characters are so horribly written, i quit twice.
But the good ones are usually really good. The Romulan Prize was superb IMO and i really liked War Drums despite how quickly it ended.
So the point of this thread is to know where to go next. The bookstore i live by has mostly TNG 10-25 but some others. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Which isn't actually a TNG novel, it's just branded that way because they figured that would sell better than if they just called it a Starfleet Academy novel. It crosses over with all three 24th-century series -- perhaps somewhat more with TNG than the others -- but it focuses mainly on its original group of characters.

It crosses over with all three 24th-century series -- perhaps somewhat more with TNG than the others -- but it focuses mainly on its original group of characters.

It's much more TNG than anything else. There are many references to the Enterprise being around or what they are currently doing. Then there is a main part where most of them either visit or are assigned to the ship.

So I agree it does reference all three series (TNG, DS9, VOY) but it is MUCH more TNG than anything else. And I really liked how the elements were tied in on the edges, but it didn't take place entirely on the Enterprise.

Naming wise, I'm sure it was packaged as TNG to sell copies. At any rate, I really enjoyed the book and would offer it up as a good read to any TNG fan.

Those are the only ones that take place during the show that I've read so far, but I really liked all three of them.

Wow, I'm seeing so many names that I haven't seen since high school in the early 90s... but I'm not remembering a whole lot about the actual books. My rule of thumb back in the 90s was that if it's by Peter David, it's probably good. I also liked Michael Jan Friedman and Diane Duane. I'm seem to remember liking the Reeves-Stevens works back in the day too - well, at least the stuff outside of the Shatnerverse they did. I really think it's time to revisit some of these old titles myself...

No, what it is more than anything else is a Starfleet Academy book focusing on six entirely new characters. The TNG references outnumber the DS9 and VGR references, but this is not primarily a book about Picard and the Enterprise crew. They (and the other TV characters such as Dax and Dr. Zimmerman) are supporting characters in a book about Jayme Miranda and her classmates.

This isn't a criticism, of course. I enjoyed the book and regret it wasn't followed up on. But since the original poster was asking for TNG books, I felt it would be misleading to present The Best and the Brightest as a TNG book without explaining what its real focus is.
