If there's any team left I DON'T want going to the Super Bowl, it's the Steelers.
Actually, if there were a way for both the Steelers and Patriots to lose, I'd be all for that.
While I share your disdain for the thought of the Steelers or Patriots being in the Super Bowl yet again, for that to happens means the Jets have to advance. And I have MUCH more disdain for that thought.

I'm an Aussie just getting into gridiron (watching patriots vs jets game atm), can you explain why all the hate for the patriots? Is it just tall poppy syndrome or are they the team everyone has to hate (like collingwood in Aussie rules football)?
The hate for the Pats pretty much comes from the fact that they are consistently better than everyone else, and very much have a, "Fuck you, we're going to play the game we want to play it" attitude.

Usually hatred for a team comes from hating their arrogant and obnoxious fans. Unless it's hatred for the Yankees, in which case it's hating their ownership AND fans.
Though it's hard to hate the Raiders owner these days, since he's so senile and responsible for their failures. Unless you're a Raiders fan, that is.

Much of the hate directed towards the Patriots does come from what has been said before: they are consistently good and carry themselves with what seems to be arrogance. One other thing is the "Spygate" controversy from a few seasons ago. This was when the Patriots were discovered to be illegally taping other teams' practices. Of course... that's something that most teams probably do anyhow.
Myself - I will never like their coach or be a fan of the team... but man they are a model of consistency and excellence. You can't ignore how well they've played the game on and off the field

I saw an interesting piece on Inside the NFL stating that the NE Patriots go after players that had a solid family background, prefereably a two-parent household, that they could get to buy into their system and that knew how to listen to authority. It was interesting, anyway.
The Patriots better figure out how to score pretty quick. I don't think they were counting on this.
