SGU CANCELLED!

I saw this coming from the first two episodes.

You just can't throw your established fan base under the bus ,and get away with it sometimes.

Since a vast majority of shows get cancelled by their own networks it's not much of a prediction that Stargate Universe would be cancelled as well.

Because it's contrary to finally putting this train wreck out of its misery?

Generally, the people who post regularly in SGU threads on the internet are SGU fans who want the show to stick around. Juvenile hate sites aside of course... :guffaw:
You realize this is the Stargate section? Just because I like the original show and some of Atlantis doesn't mean I have to praise the shame of the franchise as the second coming!
I've watched every episode of SGU in hope of the show finding its legs and becoming something of its own, suppressed the urge to puke during every pop music montage but it simply took them too long to turn the show into something that's at least bearable.
And after boring their audience to death with soap opera plots for over a season and using the communication stones as a crutch whenever and wherever possible the writers do a 180 and what did we get? "Battlestar Voyager: The Final Frontier".

You're confused, no one suggested that you should. You just seemed to be having trouble understanding why that video would have been posted here, so I explained it to you.

You have a vivid imagination :techman:

Not necessarily. Most people on here just seemed to be watching because there was nothing else space based on, they were hoping it would improve, or they liked some aspect of the show enough to slough through the episodes. Maybe on Gateworld that is true, but not everywhere else.

I watched SG-1 for years, "waiting for it to get good." All it ever achieved was a barely tolerable level of watchability.

It's not like you only had a couple of seasons to make up your mind. I think what's more likely is that you actually enjoyed it or you wouldn't have kept watching but were consistently disappointed at what it could have been with a bit more risk.

Thank you for telling me what I think. :rommie:

I said it was at a level that I could tolerate watching it. That, combined with a general lack of space opera options and my eternal optimism/stubornness, got me through years of mediocre TV.

And it didn't hurt that they brought Ben Browder on just as I was ready to bail on it. Sneaky bastards.

That certainly describes me. I also slogged thru four seasons of Heroes, which got far more painful far more quickly than Stargate did (until SG:U's nail in the coffin, that is).

Desperation drives much of my TV viewing. If there were more good shows around, I wouldn't stoop to watching shows I know are crap.

That pretty much sums it up, but apparently prefers to be trolling like that.

As much as I like him and Claudia Black, the premise of fighting against one-dimensional omnipotent baddies and their religious nutjob henchmen in their flying toilet seats really didn't do him any favors.

Sounds familiar. But how are we supposed to explain that the later seasons of Earth: Final Conflict and Andromeda actually had viewers? ;)

Either way, not people who want the show canned.

Thats bs. Syfy has been REAL sucky lately. Like bringing on that stupid show Being Human. Ghost busters has mutliple shows and new ones(why?)
I guess we syfy fans are being replaced by mainstream fans.
I will never consider stupid ghost shows as syfy for as long as I live.
What happened to the star trek enterprise-stargate Atlantis-SG-1 thing that happened during the weekdays?
I really like this show.
Goddamn networks. :klingon:

Thats bs. [...]
No, it's not. The show failed in the ratings. Goodbye, show. What would have been "bs" was keeping the show on and losing money. Any executive who made that decision would end up unemployed.

The ratings in season one weren't exactly strong, either. SGU survived into season two for two basic reasons: 1) Since Syfy is a cable network, ratings expectations are lower all around; and 2) the Stargate name and history.

Like bringing on that stupid show Being Human.
An attempt to capitalize on a pre-existing franchise by adapting for an American audience, which makes decent (at least) business sense. It's not like this is a new phenomenon.

Ghost busters has mutliple shows and new ones(why?)
Because it brings in the ratings and revenue, of course.

Yes I knew those reasons I am just saying that maybe a science fiction network is turning away from it roots and original fans because of money. Maybe its time for a new SyFy like network that wont follow mainstream.

There's no "maybe" about it. The channel has to diversify beyond the niche in order to survive. Any "new" science fiction channel would ultimately have to do the same as well. Take a look around all the once-niche channels on cable. How many have managed to stay entirely true to their niche without expanding at all?

You nailed it. The cable landscape is vastly more competitive now than it was 10 years ago, when Sci-Fi was a relatively new network. You simply can't survive by appealing to a tiny market niche anymore. You need that niche plus the broad appeal in order to attract enough eyeballs to fund your programming.

If SyFy quit playing those really chessy movies, they might have a bit more money, not all shows can hit home run just after 2 seasons. (TOS didn't)

But hey just an opinion. I can see your points and its the unfortunate truth.
