My projects.

Cheapjack

Fleet Captain
I have three projects in line.

One is very similar to an existing project, so I am going to have to modify it.

One looks like it is going to get rubbished before it ever hits paper, so I am going to have to rethink it.

The third, looks other people have thought of it before me, but they haven't, and I can prove it, so again I will have to modify.

The only thing I can think of, to do, is to get all of them done, so well written, and modified, that no sentient being in the universe would not stamp them as passed and give me a check.

And then, start on another two.

I don't know what game it is people are playing, whether or not they think I am lazy, incompetent, an egotistic dreamer. Or whether they are determined I stay in my position and prove it is possible to get out of such a bad one, but it isn't very funny to me, at all.

I think, they think, I am deliberately leaking my projects, cos I am such a loser, I love it tucked away in the corner, and I don't want to come out.

I've only had two miniprojects acknowledged in my time, and I think people think I am coasting along on these. Or, I'm a fake. Or, a born loser. But they seem very, very interested in my 'half-project's. They don't like me, I think, cos I don't lose my temper, but when I do, and I have a cutting tongue, they don't like that, either.

Anyone else in a similar postion?

Well, do you think I should just get them done? If I do them quick, they won't be as good and may get rejected. If I take time, they may get taken off me. It is possible to do something really great in a short time. It looks like I am going to have to do that. It is possible that the whole concept of them isn't really all that good. That is possible.

Oh god not again.:brickwall:

Indeed. Didn't we do this already?

The answer is: do your fucking job. If getting these projects done is part of your job, then get the projects done. Do them to the best of your ability in a reasonable amount of time.

What is so hard about this?

What does it matter if yours is similar? Is there a rule that says that two projects cannot be similar? If the existing project is good, then why can't yours be good too?

Nothing will kill your project quicker than lacking belief in it yourself. Rethink it if/when it gets rubbished.

The third, looks other people have thought of it before me, but they haven't, and I can prove it, so again I will have to modify.
Why can't they modify theirs?

Jadzia, the third one could be the big one. And, I thought of it. And, the first two could be leaking air, before I even get them finished. Running round like a chicken doesn't seem to do any good. Though I'm thinking of new ideas all the time.

I think the problem is, in the view of management, that my ideas are sort of half-formed. Ideas that a better, more sensible, worldly-wise, man could carry through. But, I think of them.

Thanks any way.

All ideas start out that way.

Carry through is about knowing when to stop generating new ideas/ modifying them/ rethinking them, and to shift focus to settle on one, and flesh it out with depth and detail.

Spending too long modifying and rethinking will cause others to lose confidence in your ability to carry through. It may even cause you to lose confidence in yourself.

I've been called a bum. Twenty years ago, I was a toffee- nosed snob. Some people wish I would just give up, i guess. I've been called stiffnecked, a riddle talker, and far too blunt and forthright, too. Interesting to have around and a crashing bore. Too soft and loving and cold as ice. Too bothered about the fate of the weakest and far too strong.

All at different times. I've been through every emotion from A to Z.

I will take your advice in hand, Jadzia.

I think I can hear the sound of one hand clapping, or flapping, or something...

At least with MB, there was something you could get a handle on.

I wanna play too:

The other day, or was it weeks ago, or months ago, or was it it years ago, no , i'm pretty sure it was the other day, oh well it dosen't matter. Some time ago I was in the store, no, library, no work, no, I don't remember, but I met a guy or a girl who told me about this thing which could be used to make stuff, that in turn could be used for somrthing. I saw something on some show, no read in a book, no heard on the radio, oh, I don't know, anyway, about that thing and the person was saying that you have to get some stuff and add it to the thing and something else is created, that stuff is then added to the other stuff and some thing will come out and produces a horrible whatcha call it? Once that is made then you have to take the dohikey and stir it up. After a few minutes, no seconds, no hours, oh well it dosen't matter, you get a beautifull looking something or other. Does that make any sense?:guffaw:

^ I think the important thing was that you had an onion tied to your belt, which was the style at the time.
