Let's cut bits off of babies, yes?

Aesthetic mostly, but I have read that the cells in foreskin are breeding grounds for things like HIV - obviously circumsicion is no protector against AIDS, but why not lessen the chances?

I am all for protecting people from AIDS - but a baby will not be sexually active for many years so why not wait and let him make the decision for himself?

Because I think I'm doing him a favor. ;)

I think it's just easier to get done when you're an infant and then there's the fact you have no recollection of the event. It's tough to have the minerals to go in to the doctor and have him take a look at your dick, I've been there. But hey, parents are more than free in my books to wait and let the kid make his own choice. It's just not a road I'd go down.

Because he'd probably say 'no', duh. But Daddy likes the look of his cock better that way so ...

I'm a pedophile and a control freak hahahahahahahahahaha!

You're probably uncut. My condolences.

Wussy American men afraid of something that 10 year old Malaysian boys are willing to go through.

Not that you have any stake in the issue.

Doesn't alter the fact that saying we should circumcised baby boys so that grown men won't have to go though it just makes those men out to be complete wusses.

My take is that you're making an emotional decision, not a logically reasoned one.
My take is that Garak would do it even just to piss off half of the people on this board. ;)
Well it is unfortunate that I'd give people the freedom to do what they want, and not be afforded the same courtesy doing something that's completely legal and on the level.

Whaddyagonna do. ;)

I must say I'm quite unfamiliar with 10 year old Malaysian boys.

As I said earlier in the thread - in Malysia (a mainly Muslim country) boys are usually circumcised between the ages of 10-12. It is seen as a passage from childhood to manhood. Obviously those boys can take the pain and the embarrassment some some people here think American men couldn't endure easily.

Oh ok.

That in no way changes my outlook on the matter. People are free to make thier choice, as I am to make mine.

That's the thing. The babies aren't being given the choice, they're being circumcised without their consent.

Well I was talking about the choice of a parent to either wait or have the operation performed. Babies are incapable of making a choice, and as a parent I currently have the legal right to get a licensed professional to perform a pretty darn harmless procedure on my kid. That's really all there is to it. I've witnessed it first hand, read up on it and know how great my own dick looks. It's a no brainer.

If he wants to take it up with me in the later years of his life, fine, we'll duke it out. But I'm pretty damned sure he'll be thanking me for not having a ugly dick. :)

You know I was just down in Mexico and saw tons of these barely 1 year old babies with their ears pierced. That must make you guys REAL mad. :guffaw:

I've just registered because this topic stood out and made me rage inside. I have to give my opinion to this issue, as I can't see why anyone would do this to his/her child.

I definitely think male circumcision, along with the female GM - and, please, don't lecture me on the fact that "they're not the same, FGM is much worse, etc.", I still oppose both - should be outlawed. I do not think that your rights and privileges as parents should include this "decision", as if it were about whether you want to buy a red or a white car.

I do not think that babies need to be made a "choice" for. It's just a made-up thing. And calling natural penises "ugly"...oh my god.

In response to Garak, I would definitely oppose piercing the ears of children, without them expressing the wish to do it, as well.

i am already covered ear-piercing in this thread.

The anti-child abuse laws in my state that could be applied to any unnecessary procedure carried out on a child without its consent could also be applied to any body-piercing. However the law has never been test for circumcision nor for body-piercing mainly because it is difficult to get a baby circumcised in Tasmania, and also to get a baby's ears pierced.

There doesn't have to be a law specifically targeting circumcision as most western countries already have laws concerning inflicting uneccessary pain on children.

@MissChicken
Which doesn't really cover it because not only do I care about potential pain, but much more about the fact that the indiviual has to live with the decision of his parents for the rest of his life, "branded".
