Movies you love but others hate.

Mary Shelley's Frankenstein - the Kenneth Branagh-directed version of the tale. It was crapped on by pretty much everyone, but while I wouldn't say I love it I liked it at the time and still do. :bolian:
i really enjoy this version of Frankenstein too. i also enjoy The Shadow.

Somewhere In Time

Often criticized as a 'chick flick.' I always thought that was a stupid term. They also use it for movies like Sleepless In Seattle, You've Got Mail, etc. You like what you like. Movies are neither masculine nor feminine.

Somewhere In Time, which was based on Richard Matheson's novel Bid Time Return, was a very good story, in my opinion. I like most of Matheson's work. What Dreams May Come was another good one of his.

I absolutely and completely enjoyed:
Lost in Space (cool nods to the old show)
Superman Returns (jet rescue scene is awesome)
My Name is Bruce? (I always laugh..can't help myself)
Superman III (Clark-Superman battle...c-o-o-l-e-s-t)
The Dark Crystal (sssllloowww but fun)
The Man with Two Brains ("I couldn't f*** a gorilla!)
Star Trek - The Motion Picture (The directors cut was great)
I'll think of more later.....

-Beaches
-Look Who's Talking (all the movies)
-both Men in Black movies
-The Wedding Singer
-both X-Files movies
-Mama Mia!
-both Princess Diaries movies (I know, gag, but I love them)
-Hairspray (the newest one)
-all the "Alien" movies (Resurrection is my fave)
-Grease 2
-Avatar

These are mostly movies I like but my friends hate, so I don't really know about the general population. Some are critically acclaimed and well received, but not much in my friend group. So, that's why I list them :) If I remember more I'll post again.

Two more.

Die Another Day. Great opening sequence (all Brosnan's Bond flicks had great openers) and the sword fight, two guys really going for it, work for me. As does the jet sequence at the end, and Rosemary Frost.

One that's not hated but should be watched more often (therefore a recommendation) is Still Crazy. Great British cast and some good classic-style rock.

Star Trek V Final Frontier

Seconded. Although it wasn't nearly as funny as it thought it was and Scotty/Uhura was a bad idea. Sybok was a great character (but not a great villain) and the old crew as over-the-hill space adventurers without any friends off the ship (they all shored together) was endeering.

Agreed, you really defined the film perfectly for me too.:vulcan:

Your avs register as similar to me so I thought you were having a convo with yourself! Chalk me down as another that likes Star Trek V. I went through all the movies for the first time a couple of years ago so I definitely measured them against each other. V was one of my faves.

I can't really make a list for this topic because I like "bad" movies quite unapologetically. I like rom-coms, and action blockbusters, I like syfy movies and lifetime movies about the man with three wives. I love made for tv disaster flicks about the end of the world.

Bad taste? Maybe. But it's what I like and I don't really care what other people like.

Ok well I started this thread with an all time favorite Cabin Boy, now to delve deeper into my movie viewing habits I offer HEXED as another personal favorite which no one i know understood/got, it was such a classic spoof on the thriller genre, even though it probably was not meant to be so, plus come on it has some classic one liners such as

Detective : She even attacked a mime. Just found out about it. Seems the mime had been reluctant to talk.

and

Hexina: You and I are going to have so much fun! Think of all the great sex games we can play! Do you have mayonnaise and a rake?

but umm unless your partner has a sense of humor I wouldn't recite that one hahaha

so yeah Hexed.

Well... I love a few movies that my best friend just hates. They are:

- District 9

- The Lovely Bones

- Superman Returns

- Cannonball Run & Cannonball Run II

- Moving Violations

- The Onion Movie

This reminds me of a Lifetime movie that I just love and have to watch whenever it comes on - Fifteen and Pregnant with Kirsten Dunst. I just can't get enough of it!
