Hey guys. Been working on this, on and off, for a bit. Thought I'd post the rough lateral view (click for full res).

I like that "reverse/forward rake" shape to the hull...do you have any other views, sketches?

Not at this time. I'm going to get the lateral view more established before I start fleshing out the rest.

For some reason, James Woods's performance from Contact popped into my head when I read that.

    :guffaw:

Here's a small update of the lateral view. You'll notice I added the nacelles and pylons (and yes, there are bussard collectors...you just can't see them from the side). Also enlarged/elongated the saucer. If you haven't already noticed the Galaxy-class design lineage...this baby has a huge saucer. I'm not apologizing for it, either.

    :p

I like what I can see of the design so far. From this view alone, it feels like the warp nacelles should be extend further back to balance out the saucer section. Is this going to become a 3D model at some point?

Dont be tempted to extend the nacelles, it's looking interesting as it is.

I wasn't suggesting it, but it just feels like they're too short from that particular view. But now that I compare it to the Enterprise-D, it's actually very similarly proportioned, and I have no issue with that (although the enterprise 1701, A, and E all have much bigger nacelles). And the Intrepid class is one of my favourite ships, and those nacelles are a LOT smaller by comparison. So it's probably just the view.

I wasn't meaning to get at your opinion Nein. It's just that pretty much every time there is a ship design with shorter nacelles put forward, there is a chorus of 'put long, thin nacelles on it' before it's even finished and looked at from all the angles. I think the nacelles on this design look in proportion so far, but until the designer is done with it we wont know for sure.

The nacelle dimensions aren't necessarily final, but I'm thinking it will look just fine when you see their width in the forthcoming dorsal/ventral view. If you look at the Galaxy-class, these nacelles aren't too much smaller, proportionally, and the draft (height) of this ship would make longer nacelles seem...weird. Trust me, I tried several flavors. Another note on the nacelles: there is a definite Excelsior-class influence here (hint, hint), mixed with Galaxy, obviously.

As for the 3D model...I would love to see that happen, but I'm not a modeller. If it happens, it'll be someone else's magic paintbrush.

    :)

That happened with Legacy. :p Thanks for your confidence, Axe.

Thanks! I hope it stays that way as I flesh her out. A lot of folks are probably going to balk at her size (she's larger than the Galaxy-class), but I'm not gonna let that slow me down.

The nacelles are way too small for THAT.

Just a quick FYI...I'm going to be moving to California (from Pennsylvania) this week. That's a 3,000 mile haul. That said, don't expect a whole lot of action until after I make the transition and get my PC set up in sunny California.

It looks that way and the nacelles don't have to be so big that seen on JJ-prise if that's what you meant.

I don't think this'll be a JJverse design. I didn't start with that in mind, and I'm not sold on the organic salad fat-lady design aesthetic yet. But that doesn't mean I won't do a JJverse variant at some point...especially if the design is well suited to it.

Nice design... hmm, for some reason I sort of have the idea though that it might look even better with the nacelles on backwards...

I think the saucer could benefit from having more below the rim to balance it out a bit . . . I would raise it to about the midpoint between the rim as it is now and the phaser strip

    looks really nice, though :techman:

what if the nacelles where even lower, with slightly forward curved pylons that are really wide from a front angle?

Yeah, I think pylons forward might be cooler, considering the way the ship seems to be leaning forward.

Whoa...lots of comments all at once. I'll take these into consideration. For now, here's a rough dorsal view of the nacelle design, with some eye candy.

    Edited to add:

Here's an updated lateral view with the nacelle pylons adjusted as suggested (click for full res).

She almost seems to be leaning forward, like the Galaxy-class, but also sitting back...as if she's unconcerned at the same time. Like a lounging panther, or something. Definitely interested, but content to stay right where she is until absolutely necessary.
