Did Riker have a thing for Ro?

She was female and had a pulse. That means Riker had a thing for her.

Hell, in "The Outcast" the object of affections didn't even need to be female!

 Funnily enough, that was exactly what came to mind. It wasn't female but you just know Riker was thinking "hm it looks sorta female if you squint really hard.... yeah, I'd still hit it"

Well, to his credit, she was identifying with being female and was cute....ish one at that. And she asked Riker about his penis which is always a plus.

I don't get why all the ladies liked Riker that much. I'd think that beard would get in the way of some serious cunnilingus, but that's just me. That being said, I thought Riker took a major risk to his career by seducing the lower-ranked Ro. On top of that, given Ro's past, I think Riker was a real jerk for taking advantage of such a disillusioned Bajoran. I don't know, I think he just didn't care.

There was a guy on here once who told me, in reference to alien women "he who cares least, wins." I'd say Riker lost. Picard must have known something about Riker's seduction of Ro that wasn't made clear in "Conundrum", some dark secret that he buried. But I'll bet whatever Picard found out is part of the reason why Riker was stuck as an Executive Officer for so long. He should have been a Captain of his own Starship way sooner. Bajoran women will do it to you everytime.

he who cares least, wins? How can you win something that you don't care about?

It's simple. If you care, then you try too hard to get the 'tang. By trying too hard I mean that you run the risk of making bad decisions in pursuit of it.

Remember in the last couple episodes before "Conundrum" when they showed how Ro had had a really rough Bajoran childhood? Well, Riker knew this, and in "Conundrum" he acted on his impulses when she wasn't really herself. I'd say that Riker using his seniority to bed Ro, combined with his knowledge of her rough past and who knows what sort of degeneracies he exposed to her in his lair, hurt his chances for promotion through the Starship fleet. He was Executive Officer forever! I firmly believe that Picard knew about Riker's seduction of Ro and all the horrid details of said seduction, and he buried any possible promotion Riker might have received. Who would want someone who so egregiously abuses his authority in pursuit of fucking the shit out of aliens under his command captaining their own Starship? It wouldn't have been good for the Federation.

If Riker had simply not cared whether or not he got into Ro's spacepants, then he could have said that anything that happened between them was simply a result of her wanton advances and not his own lecherous ways. But he didn't and I think it cost him a captaincy in Season 6.

You know there really is a good chance Ro might have run into Thomas Riker after her defection... Now there is a story there, isn't it? :bolian:

Excuse me??? Riker had a thing for Ro and Shelby??? How about Ro and Shelby having a thing for Riker.

Hey, while my first choice on the TNG would've been Picard, I sure as heck wouldn't have turned down Riker either.

The guy is good looking, period. He's a nice guy and he's a smart guy. Gee why would any woman want a man like that is BEYOND me????!

To answer the original question, there was more chemistry between Ro and Picard and if I had to make her anyone's girlfriend, I would've paired her up with him.

The chemistry I saw between Ro and Picard, to me, was more father daughter. He was hurt beyond words in Preemptive Strike. I think, like a father who realizes too late that he missed the clues his child was giving him, he saw his mistake and knew he wouldn't be seeing his daughter again.

Nah. I have a beard and it's never gotten remotely in the way, any more than a beard gets in the way of kissing or pubic hair got in the way of cunnilingus back in those halcyon days when women had pubic hair (I miss pubic hair...).

Who wouldn't have a thing for Ro? She's just so full of spunk. The kinda girl who will blow up half the ship to save the other half because life is cheap.

That's the kinda girl I need.

^ tee hee, unintentional innuendo.

Sorry

It would've been nice for Ro to at least get an episode where she leaves, like wesley had in Final Mission

She did, it was the penultimate episode of the series: http://memory-alpha.org/wiki/Preemptive_Strike_(episode)

Loved that episode.

I meant when she randomly disappears near the beginning of season 6 (I think in Rascals), with no explanation.

Sorry, I should've made that clearer. Stupid me

It was clear to me. I think he was just being pedantic.

I didn't like Ro at first but after a while I think she had added a lot to the series. If someone behind the series wasn't so dead-set against secondary characters it would've been nice to see her develop. (Or see her be on DS9 as a regular.)

Ro was a lovely addition and, yeah, it would've been real nice if not only she was used more but her leaving the ship didn't completely happen off-camera.

No.

What Capt_Pickirk suggests would have been nice, but I don't know the background - maybe Michelle Forbes just wasn't available between Rascals and Preemptive Strike. Wesley, of course, was a main character.

I'm not sure if you're just taking the piss here or if you're seriously mis-remembering the episode, but I just rewatched it fairly recently, and Ro did far more initiating of relations than even William "horndog" Riker did in that ep. And I'm pretty sure they started before they were aware of their seniority and positions.
It was pure attraction, nothing more.
