As often as you keep buying it.
I haven't bought any of the
Star Wars releases and I doubt I ever will; Lucas' habit of forever releasing new editions of the same fucking films is the reason why. Fuck 'em.
That doesn't make any sense. I've bought exactly one release: the original DVD release from 2004. And I'm not buying again until the original versions are released on at the very least 16x9 enhanced DVDs, preferably Blurays. I'm a little annoyed at Lucas re-releasing it over and over, but not so angry that I wouldn't buy at least one version.
I mean, the home video history of these films is pretty telling. Multiple releases on Laserdisc and VHS (also some releases on Beta and CED and even VCD). So bide your time till a release that suits your fancy comes out and buy it, and save your anger for something a little more worthwhile.

The last time Lucas got any of my money was for the theatrical release version of Star Wars on DvD, and the only way I'd buy the bluray would be for the theatrical release version.
I have yet to bother with the special edition version that came with it, but I think it might be useful as a drink coaster.
I'm not a total SE hater, in fact, when the originals were first announced for DVD, I had no problem rebuying the SE's for what I thought were going to be decent versions of the originals. It was only when I learned they were old non-anamorphic laserdisc transfers that I balked. I still have my SE DVDs and still watch them, but that's all I'm buying for now.
As for this announcement: like I said above, as much as Star Wars has meant to me over the years, I can't get excited for any more releases without decent versions of the original versions being made available. I've wanted to see deleted scenes and such for years, (at my age, I could truthfully say "decades"), but I can netflix the bonus discs if need be.
Still, fingers crossed... (hmm, I was sure we had a 'fingers crossed' smiley, maybe I'm thinking of another forum).
