I'm guessing no Manta prowel tanks either...

Bit early to be worrying, and who knows what'll happen post production, but I do fear that this stripped down basics approach is going to miss the point of MC1 being such a sprawling metropolis...and maybe miss the humour that Dredd's world needs to balance the darkness...

We have seen very little though, for all we know the SUVs are drom some kind of flashback to MC1's early days...lets hope so anyway!

I think a bunch of Toyota (from what I can make of the hastily disguised front ends) 4x4s might take me out of the Megacity universe a little.

I could see the uniform working as the helmet has the right look about it, but even the Stallone movie had a stab at something more futuristic on four wheels.

It does look a bit more "Old Detroit" from Robocop than MC1 at the moment.
Anychance some CGI enhancements could be done to advance the look of some vehicles?

Can we claim some type of satisfaction if the Lawmaster is correct?

Well we can only hope that they do do something in post production. At the very least they should have gone with monster trucks ahead of SUVs :)

Well those pics are from a live set and earlier in this thread were posted conceptual art which looked like there will be CGI additions later in post-prod which is what I assume they'll do.

It does certainly look a little low-tech for Dredd, but for all we know this stuff could be just intended for background fill for the Hall of Justice garage or something. Either way it looks like they're trying to run things on a modest budget. Modifying existing vehicles is a lot cheaper than doing new builds or even bolting fibreglass shells onto existing chassis (as they did in the '96 movie.)

Looks like the same one as in the test shot and sure enough, that bust doesn't look like a life-cast of Urban.

That looks a little goofy. The Stallone movie did a lot of things wrong, but I thought the costumes were spot-on.

Actually the Judge uniforms in the Stallone film were WAY off. Ignoring for a second the hilarious codpiece, the shoulder pads and badge were all meshed together into one unwieldy piece that always look in danger of riding up past the wearer's head instead of being three separate pieces, the under-suit was some kind of awful skin-tight spandex number instead of the more practical heavy duty looking uniform from the comics. Then of course there's the helmet...it works I suppose but the big visor never looked right to me.

By contrast the new design (assuming the test shot is more or less what they're going with) looks like a much better balance of faithfulness and practicality. For one thing the armour looks functional, like it'd actually protect the wearer instead of just look stylish.

One detail I hope they'll retain from the comics is the boot holster. It something that's often overlooked but Judges draw their lawgivers from just below the knee, not from the hip. It make a lot more sense when you consider that they have to be able to draw while riding Lawgivers.

Looks like some more set photos from cape town have surfaced. (scroll down) The set decorators have clearly done their homework, I see references to Cit-Def, Kenny Who?, Hondo City and munce burgers. :D

I'm pretty psyched for this film. Can't wait to see a full poster and a trailer. I'm guessing we could get one as early as Feb or March.

IMDB has some more of the cast up. Nobody I really recognise and from a brief skim of their previous credits it looks like they mostly cast a bunch of mid-to-low-budget film actors...not that there's anything wrong with that, just another sign that as much of the budget will be up on screen.

Yeah I don't recognize anyone else besides Karl and Olivia. I agree that much of the budget will be put towards the visual effects for this one. Alex Garland's strong script that focuses on Dredd and Anderson in the self contained building for most of the movie should be interesting.

Only other one I recognized was Langley Kirkwood, who was awesome in Charlie Jade.

I'd say that has a certain ring of truth to it. She has enough of a proven track record that she has the chops, has worked in a respectively budgeted film before while at the same time isn't some A-lister who'll burn a hole in *this* film's budget.

If true then I'll look forward to seeing her sink her teeth into it (literally if the leaked script holds true.)

Incidentally, here's a link to the blog where that story originated and I should point out that they don't even make a pretence at citing an unnamed source for this. Make of that what you will. Oh and they have more photos of the Lawgiver prop! ;)
