What races do you want to see in the next series main cast?

I'd be happy with an Andorian and a Bolian on the bridge. Maybe a Vulcan too to provide some conflict with the Andorian.

It would depend on what Era they were in. By TOS I think they would be used to working together, after a century of membership in the Federation. And definately by TNG, everyone gets along then.

I'd have the next cast include a maximum of three humans, maybe a human/alien hybrid, but that's it. Make the rest alien species. There are too many good races out there to use (Andorian, Bolian, Benzite, Vulcan, to mention a few of my favourites), as well as whatever new one the creators can come up with.

But whatever they go for, the one thing I want to see on the bridge of the next ship is a gay male human (though not flamboyant or feminine, just a normal man who happens to be gay), it's long overdue!

I think you are only going to get the former on an animated show - can you imagine how long the make-up calls would be if over half the characters required major prosthetics for live actors - giving betazoids contact lenses, trill tattoos, and bajorans nobbly noses was done to avoid this pitfall, cheesy though they are. Babylon 5 tried its best and succeeded to a large degree but still had a majority of human characters and suffered major problems with its female narn characters (they went through 4 actresses in 2 years for a total of 9 episodes).

+1 on the gay thing.

I'd wanna see a Cardassian Starfleet officer who is treated badly cause his people "Collaborated with the Dominion and helped kill Billions!". He'd have to overcome prejudice and such..would be neat!

Otherwise I wanna see a Tactical officer with four arms, a Gorn officer and a Captain Sulu in command!!

We've already had a poll of who you would like to play the Captain in the next series:
Who would you want to play the captain in Trek series 6

What races would you like to see on the bridge, sick bay, and in engineering in the next season?

I'd like to have a Latino woman, a Filipino man, a couple Indians (from Republic of India), 2 caucasians from America & Canada, 1 native African man, a man from People's Republic of China (not a Chinese American), 1 African American, a Korean, a middle Eastern woman (with a hijab but not a full Burqa.), a French man.

Star Trek has always been on the forefront of having a very mixed race crew and I'd like to see the above be more representative of our world's races on the show.
And none of that England/South Africa/Austrailian-based Indian/African actor with a British-type accent stuff.

Star Trek to me has represented a real melting pot just like any top 10 city with many races & ethnicities. Don't you want to see how they can be more realistic?
I realize it is television and that it would greatly reduce how the audience can relate to a Starfleet crewmember if she were wearing a full Burqa so my compromise would be a hijab.

I didn't want to make this a poll so just write out what you'd like to see a crew consist of race-wise (not actors specifically).

As has been pointed out, the diversity appears to be human diversity. As for aliens it depends on when its set. 22nd Century Enterprise or Daedalus era would probably be mostly humans. And the aliens are more restricted. A Daedalus class ship could have Vulcans, Andorians, Trill, Denobulans, etc.

If its after Nemesis, the choices are much wider. As for the humans, yes it should better represent the range of human global diversity. Of course, we have no idea what the demographics of Earth will be in future centuries. Nevertheless, as Asia is home to 60% of the human race, (with N. and S. America, Europe, Africa and Australia/Oceania
combined being the other 40%) I think a stronger representation of Asian peoples, especially is in order.

I don't think anyone wants to see a character who in present on the show solely to be "The Gay Guy." It would be great to have the future gay character be male, while lesbians are far more acceptable to older main stream audiences, a male gay would allow Star Trek to appeal to younger audiences, who increasingly don't possess a anti-gay position. Question is, how do you inform the viewers that the character is in fact gay. Short of a basic announcement over the intercom. With a few exception during DS9, Star Trek absolutely sucks a depicting relationships. Or will "the gay guy" play the field, a new boy on every planet.

I like that idea. :rommie: Just get it out of the way in the first ten minutes of the first episode.

I'd like to see Andorian :) I haven't seen them much in my Star Trek watchings :D

Yeah, their antennae are great! :rommie:

"Sensors detecting an unidentified object ahead. What is that thing?"

"It's a hat, a brooch, a pteratactyl..."

"I sure picked the wrong week to give up Romulan ale."

Cardassians. After all, we don't know exactly when the Federation met the Cardassians -- we do know that at one time, the military wasn't in charge and they were peaceful (re: Chain of Command, Pt. II.)

Another shape-shifter would be nice, too. The person doesn't necessarily have to be one of Odo's people, the Founders, as we had two shapeshifters in TOS/movies lore -- Captain Garth from Whom Gods Destroy and Martia's unknown shape-shifting species from The Undiscovered Country.

I wanna see a Gorn and a Horta, so we can see some hot inter-species action.

I'd prefer characters with interesting concepts and backgrounds, who the writers have interesting ideas about going into the series. That means zero characters added just for the sake of (human) ethnic diversity. Also, maximum one character defined by father issues (because clearly if we said zero Trek would cease to function entirely).

I'd like a Trill woman (the spots are so cute!).

I'd like one member of an alien species that's either new, or that we've never seen much of before.

I think a shapeshifter who shifts form every day as part of their sleep cycle - they could have the character played by a series of guest stars.

I'd like to see an Andorian officer on the bridge, possibly a cute female Tellarite one too.
cute Tellarite is an oxymoron unless she's had nasal reconstruction surgery...

Seconded on both counts!

Lesbians. All lesbians.
This reminds me of a documentary (or maybe it was a lengthy news segment) I once saw about an all-female crew aboard a US Navy ship. They had a PMS Duty Roster that actually referred to Preventive Maintenance Service. Anyone know the name of the ship?

A Time Lord.

Wait, wrong series.

Really though I would like to see a Xindi humanoid or reptilian.

How about a gay male Klingon? We know how humans view homosexuality in the 23rd C (no problem with it at all), but how about a warrior culture like Klingons that is based on family bloodlines?
