The man in the dress

Those boots are probably (if not acutally) the same ones worn with the jumpsuit uniforms.

I still think the skant is a long tunic worn over shorts. It may have been a casual duty uniform that was discontinued in 2365, IMO...

Would I be cynical if I thought that perhaps Roddenberry "invented" the skant not because he wanted to show an enlightened and progressive future, but because he still wanted to be able to put hot women in skirts and this was his way of justifying it as not sexist? :)

I think if you got rid of the sleeves, increased the length by a couple inches, and made the boots tennis shoe or sandal-like contraptions, it could work.

... and made the boots tennis shoe ...
Then it would be a cocktail dress. :)
Or you could play tennis in it.

Possible, I remember Teri Garr (TOS, Close Encounters) saying something along those lines about Hollywood in general, decisions are often made just to see a actress show more skin. Sometimes the answers to life's perplexing questions are simple; and often related to sex.

By jove, I think you're right.

Marina Sirtis did look good in the skant, or anything else she did or didn't wear. I think she just didn't like it because it didn't emphasive her massive, surgically enhanced breasts the way her other uniforms did (especially her blue dress). She seemed to favor those. Not that I'm criticising her, mind you, because she did it well.

Her breast enhancement came many years after TNG's final episode, only a few years ago. And if you think her current bustline is "massive"," you need to seriously be dating different women.

Actually, I seem to recall Marina Sirtis being quite happy when they finally put her in a standard duty uniform in Season 6, beginning with "Chain of Command," because she felt like she started being used intelligently rather than just being played as the sex symbol.

If you look at her topless scene in an earlier movie (The Wicked Lady?), she was obviously much smaller than she was in TNG.
--------
She may have felt she was taken more seriously jn the regular uniform, but she has made remarks in several interviews about how she enjoyed being the sex symbol of the show.

Wait, you don't think she had big boobs in TNG??????????

Yeah, I remember seeing their bras in one of the special features on costumes, and they were definitely "augmented." In fact, Marina was doing the tour, and she made a joke about the fact that she missed the bras because of the "help." ;)
