File repository?

Okay, I know all about Imageshack and Photobucket for image hosting, but what about somewhere to host a ZIP file (or possibly other file types)? I've never looked into this before, so I don't know all that's out there. For my purposes, it would be for a file less than 2 Mb. Also, I'd prefer not to have to sign up or register for anything (got enough logins already!), but I know those are hard to find. Any ideas?

For simple, free, no nonsense file hosting, choose 2shared...

You can't link directly to your files however, only to their download page. Weighing that against the cons of other file hosting services (registration, waiting times, popups, ads, capped download speed, slow server, several pages to click through) , this imo is the best.

Figures, blocked from work. Not surprised, really. I'll check it out from home. Thanks! :techman:

Rapidshare, Megaupload, Sharebee, zShare. I think those all allow free uploading of files. Some of them are really ad-laden, though. Nothing in life is free.

Get a Gmail account, then just email files to yourself. Google provide plenty of storage space.

I used to have an add-on for FireFox that could transfer (part of or all of) your g-mail-box to remote storage for whatever files you'd like to have there (complete with drag&drop functionality) -they probably still have it.

There's also Google Docs, which works quite well as a file depository (you can upload non-documents like .zips, too). It's searchable, and comes with a gig of free storage, which actually tends to beat most file storage sites...

Dropbox dropbox dropbox

Oh yeah, and don't forget dropbox.

Use the web or the smartphone apps or the free software that installs a folder on your computer.

Access it anywhere. Use the 'Public' folder to share files and the other folders for private files.

Share files wirelessly with your iPad/iPhone/Android so it suddenly feels like a real computer.

Backup important documents on it.

Embed images from it:

Share Zip Files from it. (It's safe to click this but the file you get will be more pointless than the kitten-chick picture.)

Listen to music or share videos with people from it.

Manage it right in Windows Explorer or Mac Finder.

Sync selected folders with other Dropbox accounts so you can share files with friends.

EVERYONE should have Dropbox.
