Jon Favreau exits IRON MAN 3

Wow...this is an interesting development. Shame if he left...maybe this will leave it open for Joss to helm Iron Man 3.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

HE'LL TURN IRON MAN INTO A TEENAGE GIRL AND HAVE HER FIGHT VAMPIRES AND REAVERS! OR HE'LL SAY SHE'S A REPROGRAMMED HUMAN BEING FIGHTING OTHER REPROGRAMMED HUMAN BEINGS! IN A HOVERCRAFT! BECAUSE JOSS WHEDON SSSSSSSSSSSUUUUUUUUUCKS AT SCIENCE FICTION!!!!

[deep breath]

Sorry. Had to get that off my chest.

What were we talking about?
I mean, it's not like Joss has to WRITE it in order to direct it.

No, but as director he'll have all but final say over the script. I've seen Serenity and Dollhouse and Alien: Resurrection and therefore don't trust him anywhere near a project that doesn't involve a gymnastic blonde fighting creatures of the night.

Fuckity fuck fuck. Iron Man was excellent, and 2 was even better. (Yeah - I just went there.)

Maybe the silver lining here is that there shouldn't be an Iron Man 3 apart from The Avengers - 2 wrapped up his personal character arc beautifully, leaving Avengers to tackle his certain teamwork personal arc. Maybe they could fold his contractual obligation for one more appearance in an Avengers 2?

For the record, Iron Man 2 was really good.

Anyways, I'm saddened but not really surprised. All sources said that Marvel pretty much screwed him on the last one. I can only hope that they'll find a director with as much respect for the material as Favreau had.

Iron Man 3 can both kill off the franchise and get critical acclaiam, four words, Demon in a Bottle.

I suppose his absence behind the camera means he won't be appearing in front of it, either. Should they recast Happy or just ignore the character? He was taking on greater importance in the second film.

Fictitiously yours, Trent Roman

"Iron Man 2" was not really good, it was really disappointing. I can understand his frustrations with dealing with the studio, feeling restrained with trying to make the movie he wanted to make was probably irritating.

Shame. Favreau is a good, capable, director and Iron Man 1 shows that. Even some of IM2 shows that but it's hindered by the shoe-horning of the Avengers stuff and other studio man-handling. (Though I think RDJ's stuff with Stark's alcoholism was a bit hammilly done but I'm not sure even that's all on RDJ or Favreau.) Hope Favs moves on to something good as the man is a good director and screen writer.

I had no problem with The Avengers stuff in Iron Man 2. The real problem with that movie was the horrendous 'Tony Stark is dying but wait! his dad just happened to invent the stuff that could cure him' angle.
