Look what I found: Robinsons: Lost in Space(2004)

Oh yeah. I watched this on YouTube a year or so back.

And I am in complete agreement with Bill.

Well, shoot the writer of this thing in the head, not myself.

Yeah, I also found it on itaytorrentbay, and I couldn't make it through 5 minutes of it.

I caught it a few years ago, I managed to make it through the whole thing, but it was pretty dire.

The best thing this show ever did was providing the sets for Battlestar Pegasus.

The other day I got a friendly nudge by a MOD after linking to stuff illegally on YouTube (it didn't occur to me when I did it).

Saw it about 3 years ago. Not very memorable. Think I skipped through most of it.

As was said above, seeing the Pegasus sets in another light was a bit funny.

That was awful

The actress playing the daughter (Adrianne Palicki) was cute though, that was the only good part :D

Well is it really illegal? It was never for sale in the first place?

Director: John Woo..YES John Woo. Starring: nobody. $2 million budget..not low budget.

I noticed it has a 7.0 rating after 72 votes, that's not that bad. They made John Robinson a military commander, instead of professor or scientist as in the other 2 incarnations. There's no Dr Smith redux, unlike the 1998 version. Instead there is a surprise attack by an alien species that Earth has been at war with. Its not stated specifically that Earth is in any dire natural or artificial danger, its simply a colonization mission with several "ark" ships. The pilot includes some of the teen angst, and trepidation at moving from Earth, but not quite so much at length as the movie. The actors are all passable but none really jump out at you. I think it would have been re-cast if it had made it to series.

The plot is like the original series. The story mainly focuses on setting up the stories to follow, but only in a very fast 42 minutes..not really enough time to develop any element. I think this show would have had a chance with some tweaking. It was more serious than the 1998 movie, but not nearly as dynamic. Odd considering the director. I like the general tone and wouldn't have minded watching the show try to erase memories of the original.

RAMA

It was just dull... there was no 'hook'. Nothing that made me want to keep watching.

I've had the entire thing sitting on my hard drive for the better part of a year, and have yet to work up the enthusiasm to watch all of it. The coolest part (as far as skimming rapidly through the episode goes) was seeing the eventual Battlestar Pegasus sets in their original incarnation.

Some things should be left "unfound" ;)

Doug Petrie was one of the best writers on Buffy The Vampire Slayer, but after this and Tru Calling I'm starting to question how much of his stuff was re-written or polished by Joss Whedon...

Hugo - insert funny quote from a Doug Petrie BtVS episode

Story wise the issues I have are:

1) They send a colony ship out with no protection (and sorry if Don West's fighter squad was there for escort; WHY werent they escorting?!

2) The Captain of the Colony ship waits AN HOUR before calling John Robinson - and doesn't think to look out the window himself?!

The worst episodes of the original LIS had better writing then this garbage. That this script got funded and produced to the tune of 2 million is amazing. I guess someone was looking for a mjor writeoff on their taxes. And lastly, I guess John Woo's worst work wasn't the Hulk. ;)

This pilot was pretty weak. On the other hand, the rejected Time Tunnel remake pilot which was also on YouTube a while back had a lot of promise, and I wish that one had gone to series.

And lastly, I guess John Woo's worst work wasn't the Hulk. ;)

John Woo never did anything involving the Hulk. Are you thinking of Ang Lee?

It did have an excellent premise as a family lost in space,. but to add the "Lost In Space" and the name of Robinson to the title was obviously a an attempt to garner the "older" viewer to watch the show.
One of the nitpicks I could point out that they had an older son that was taken captive in the attack on the convoy. This might have proven to be an excellent move if you didn't pattern it after Allen's original show. And that now they have a baby named "Penny"...Like I said before ...it might have shown more interest if they made no ties to the original.

I loved the 1998 movie btw :o

The only saving grace were Mimi Rogers and Heather Graham in these outrageous suits

;)

It appeared they were no longer at war or there was lull?? I think they really didn't expect an attack at all.

Well the captain was a civilian, not a military commander. I think they were trying to suggest there as an over-reliance on technology. Again, the captain didn't seem to have any reason to believe it was an attack. The video-screen glitch could have been anything.

The pilot itself was not great, but I think the general tone of it: serious family in danger drama could have worked. If they had gone to series I'd have expected same major retooling...somewhat like TOS or Babylon 5.
