First REAL trailer for HBO's A Game of Thrones

HBO just released their first real trailer for A Game of Thrones... and it looks AWESOME. The bits of it that I've read are almost exactly how I imagined them.

Honestly, I think I am more excited for this than any other movie or TV show coming out next year.

Re: First REAL trailer for HBO's A Game of Throne

Yeah, I'm really stoked for this. Maybe this will inspire GRRM to finally bang out those last couple of books.

Here's the trailer on YouTube for anyone who has issues watching the video on HBO's website (it was kind of choppy for me).

Re: First REAL trailer for HBO's A Game of Throne

^ How did you watch it? It was kind choppy in full screen for me, but when I went back to the default it was ok.

Re: First REAL trailer for HBO's A Game of Throne

Default. But then again, my computer is pretty long in the tooth.

Re: First REAL trailer for HBO's A Game of Throne

One does not simply walk into Winter?

It is the same actor, right?

Re: First REAL trailer for HBO's A Game of Throne

So far, it looks like they've done everything very well. I can recall reading the first book years ago and thinking, "If they every do a movie/show, Peter Dinklage has to play Tyrion." So perfect.

Re: First REAL trailer for HBO's A Game of Throne

So, having now researched the Game of Thrones books on Amazon, it appears as though these books are brilliant from the outset, but we're still 2-3 books short of completing the arc with no end in sight..........are these worth reading as is or should I wait to see if he completes these?

Re: First REAL trailer for HBO's A Game of Throne

I'd say they're well worth reading even if the series is far from complete yet. It depends on whether or not you mind long waits between books.

Re: First REAL trailer for HBO's A Game of Throne

Definitely read them, but be warned that if you do, you'll be pretty much be ruining the the entire rest of the fantasy novel genre for yourself, because NOTHING else out there is as good as them.

Re: First REAL trailer for HBO's A Game of Throne

My only qualms with this remain 1. Mark Addy does not bring to mind a man who was once the greatest warrior and maiden's fantasy in Westeros and 2. I am beginning to suspect they will gloss over the back-story and make things that were so fun to figure out through all the subtle hints into simple exposition when they become relevant to the plot. This is a series that really requires that history for context of why the world and the characters are in the state they are.

The biggest example is of course:
That Jon is not in fact Ned's bastard at all, and that the entire war to usurp the throne from the Targaryens was because Lyanna ran off with Rhaegar, breaking her betrothal to Robert, whose father then took his closest allies to King's Landing to protest her 'kidnapping' and were imprisoned, tortured and killed, eventually building into the civil war that put Robert on the throne.

Ned found Lyanna soon after the defeat of Rhaegar and her giving birth to Jon, claimed him for his own when she died, and spoiled his good name and honor(the thing he seemed to care about above all things) to protect him.

Assuming they married before his birth, this would make Jon the rightful Targaryen heir, and the likely future king.

How do you work that into the story in any other way than flashbacks? From reading the Pilot script, I really don't think they're that skilled with dialogue.

Re: First REAL trailer for HBO's A Game of Throne

I have been meaning on re-reading this series for the longest time. I mowed through the first three books, thought the third and fourth books were decent and like everyone is STILL waiting for the release of "A Dance With Dragons". Just saw the trailer and thought it looks great. Have been looking forward to seeing this since it was announced a couple years ago. Lena Headly as a blond for Cersei though? Really?

Neither Nicolaj Coster-Waldau (Jaime) or Peter Dinklage (Tyrion) are actually blond, either.
That looks really good.
...How does Skeletor smile when he doesn't have any facial muscles? :wtf:
You dare question Skeletor?
Why is he even called Skeletor when the rest of his body is all muscly? He should be called Skullitor!

Er, I mean...apologies, great Skeletor. Please forgive my insolence. :shifty:

Re: First REAL trailer for HBO's A Game of Throne

As great as the series of books looks - it's universally praised by everyone at Amazon - I'm not really into getting heavily into a wonderful story, only to have to wait 5 years to finish it. Too many other great stories out there that have a conclusion I think..........

It does.

I think I might pick up one of the books and see what all the hubbub is about. I remember hearing about them doing headhunting for casting around here a year ago.
