Design Enterprise-F Contest and novels

I think I heard from someone that STO has not been doing as well as expected? I know I had no interest when I saw the insane original prices. At least they've lowered the pricing.

I've got your Enterprise-F right here:

I'm guessing that's from some early Gold Key comic. Am I right?

actually, according to dstahl, nothing about the Vesta is certain. last thing i heard, they were looking into the licensing issues. if the Luna is any indication, i dont think there will be a problem, but i wouldnt count on the Vesta anytime soon. perhaps february or march.

now, i've been against c-store items since the game launched. but i would pay more or less anything for that masterpiece. cryptic should hire Mr. Rademaker lol.

It's from their UK counterpart, a comic so blissfully ignorant of Star Trek the first few issues star "Captain Kurt", and they think Mr. Bailey from "Balance of Terror" is a main character. The Enterprise lands in issue 2, and a later one puts the Neutral Zone just beyond Pluto.

The whole lot of them were put online for free (legit) viewing and download last year. I saved them all to my HD, but I don't have the links anymore. They're not on the comic collection DVD.

I absolutely refuse to pay per month to play a stupid game...

Mr. Bailey was from "The Corbomite Maneuver." Which makes more sense, since it was the first post-pilot episode filmed, so it's possible the British got the show syndicated in production order and started the comic right away when they only had information from the first episode or two to work with. Much like the post-TMP newspaper comic in the States had Ilia in the first few strips.

Sorry but why do they want to get rid of the Enterprise-E? She is a beauty and is holding up greatly! I mean come on, she was designed 14 years ago, and looks more up to date than the JarJarprise! Heck even the Galaxy-Class still looks new and fresh!

No need to replace the Enterprise-E. I hope the official books will not jump on that wagon!

^^^ Hell, 20 years was enough time for Morrow to decom the original E (refit). 30 years would certainly warrant a moth-shower. :D

I like the Enterprise-E and I would rather not see it replaced. With the construction methods and materials available in the 24th century I would expect starships to have a very long lifespan. Indeed, the TNG tech manual states that the Galaxy class Enterprise had a life expectacy of one hundred years. So even at thirty or forty years old the E-E should only be in its early middle age and be around for a long time to come. Unless of course, it gets into a fight with a klingon bird of prey, a class of ship that has proved exceptionally lethal to ships called Enterprise.

Well since the books follow a different path than the game (taking place in a different reality, where the DESTINY Borg invasion never happened and where the Typhon Pact was never established), it is save to say the Enterprise-F from STO will not be a possible Enterprise-F for the book series.

I just wonder how and if the authors of the books will include the destruction of Romulus in 2387, or if they will completely ignore it (since it's part of the STO timeline).

It appeared onscreen in Star Trek, it is canon, the writers have to use it. It is just as much a part of the STO timeline as it is the current novel continuity. The same way all novels, even the ones that conflict with each other have to take into account anything else that appeared onscreen.

The destruction of Romulus is part of onscreen canon, and therefore every tie-in must include it as part of their own timelines, no matter how they differ otherwise. It would hardly be the first time that different tie-ins have depicted the same canonical event in incompatible ways.

Was this the link?

^That's it, thanks:)

As a lifelong Gold Key Trek fan (they're "all wrong", but wonderfully so), I was in heaven when I came across these via a thread here.

Well there lies a hidden potential in this event, it could be a turning point for the conflict between the Typhon Pact and the Khitomer Alliance.
I know it is a little early in the book timeline, but have you already discussed it with your colleagues?

I haven't, though I can't speak for anyone else. Personally, I suspect it'll be some time before the novels get anywhere near dealing with the events of 2387.
