What was the first episode of any Star Trek show that you ever saw?

Re: What was the first episode of any Star Trek show that you ever saw

I am very proud to say it was The Man Trap on September 8, 1966.
Same here. We're part of First Fandom -- the group who became Trek fans during the show's original run on NBC, long before Trek became a franchise and a cultural phenomenon. A geek elite, you might say.

Do I get in if I was a baby? Not a fan til age 6 and 1972, but I saw it earlier than that. First episode? Thalamus wasn't done cooking, so no memories back that far. Can I just pick a symbolic one?

No idea, other than it was TOS in the 60s as a kid.

Re: What was the first episode of any Star Trek show that you ever saw

I believe the earliest memory I have of watching Star Trek was TNG's "The Survivors". It was the music in Troi's mind I recall the most.

Re: What was the first episode of any Star Trek show that you ever saw

I think...I think I saw episode #1, year #1, Star Trek #1. I might have missed the first episode or two (it was on past my bedtime), but very early into the first season that very first year, my mom started letting me stay up late(r) to watch TOS. So it was one of the first few episodes of the show that started it all.

Re: What was the first episode of any Star Trek show that you ever saw

It was TOS, but since I was four years old, I can't remember! :rommie:

Could have been Doomsday Machine, though. That's always really stuck in my mind.

First Star Trek image I recall was from about age 3, the Balok puppet in Black and White. It terrified me enough to stick with me since then!

You and Simon Pegg both. He discusses the scary Balok puppet in his autobiography, "Nerd Do Well".

I'm glad to know I wasn't the only toddler FREAKED out by that thing! :rommie:

Re: What was the first episode of any Star Trek show that you ever saw

The first episode I ever saw was TNG's "Encounter At Farpoint", rented out by my family in 1989 (here in the UK, the series wouldn't begin airing until Sept 1990, so selected episodes on rental was all we had).

However, the first Trek I saw were the movies II, III and IV so I was "aware" of what Trek was.

You are to be honored and respected.
I'm not kidding.

Mine was TOS but later and I can't recall which episode. I would catch episodes here and there before I became a "real" fan so it's hard to tell.

Re: What was the first episode of any Star Trek show that you ever saw

The first episode of Star Trek that I saw was TOS on network television, and I only saw it for a moment. At the time I didn't know what Star Trek was, and I didn't take the time to watch. I just remember seeing Kirk and Spock doing something, and thinking "Oh, I think that is Star Trek," and then flipping to something else.

The first episode of Star Trek that I actually saw by choice and watched was Episode 1 of TOS... I think it was the one about the adolescent with superpowers who was hitting on women inappropriately and making others disappear. I purchased all of TOS after going through the 10 movies sequentially and becoming hooked on them.

Re: What was the first episode of any Star Trek show that you ever saw

I honestly don't know, but I'd guess it was an episode of TAS or TOS sometime in the mid-to-late 1970s.

Re: What was the first episode of any Star Trek show that you ever saw

TNG episode encounter at farpoint bloody ace as I can remember !! I was 10 going on 11 but I use to watch reruns of TOS with my gran and I loved it.!!

Re: What was the first episode of any Star Trek show that you ever saw

Wow, two other folks are crediting The Doomsday Weapon as their first episode???? Amazing! That's the first episode that really stuck out in my mind too. I was five years old when I saw that episode and that worm-thing with the sparkler in the middle of it scared the heck out of me too. It still makes me uncomfortable.

When did I become a fan? Devil in The Dark did that to me. I really liked the way Spock and Kirk showed compassion to the horta. By the way, I was also still a five year old when I first saw that.

Re: What was the first episode of any Star Trek show that you ever saw

I don't remember the episode, but it was TAS. The first episode of live-action Trek I saw was "The City on the Edge of Forever" in the mid-70s.

Re: What was the first episode of any Star Trek show that you ever saw

Either Let That Be Your Last Battlefield (TOS) or Encounter at Farpoint (TNG). Can't really remember which came first.

It was around 1990 or something.

Re: What was the first episode of any Star Trek show that you ever saw

It was the third season of Trek TOS, I was 5 years old.
I was, somehow, still up and and about at 10 pm on a Friday night and caught the episode "The Lights of Zetar".
Star Trek and that episode caught me right then and never let go.

Folks, in the interest of "full disclosure," I had bedtime issues also. I saw The Man Trap, Charlie X, and the first five minutes of The Naked Time, but most of the rest of the first season I didn't see first run. :( I saw Seasons 2 and 3 on their first broadcasts, but I saw most of Season 1 the first time it was re-run on New York's WPIX. The upside is that Star Trek finished on a high with me because I saw the stronger Season 1 episodes after the very-mixed-in-quality Season 3. But it would be nice to be able to say I saw all three seasons first run...

Nerdius, that's a really interesting point. Not sure how old you are, but the world was a lot larger in those days. When Star Trek was cancelled, I thought I was part of a very small minority who missed it. It was not until the mid 1970s that I read David Gerrold's The Trouble With Tribbles and The World of Star Trek that I found out I had company. The rest is history, as the proverbial "they" say.

Re: What was the first episode of any Star Trek show that you ever saw

TOS -- The Trouble With Tribbles was my first episode (in reruns), but I think I saw TMP before that.
