Too Many Decisions

Thanks LGM and propita. I appreciate it, and I agree.

Some mom news today; it seems there has been a setback as infection has set in, and the nurse situation isn't getting any better. Today, a new nurse dropped mom's oxygen breather, picked it up, wiped it on the sheet, and tried to put it back on her. Dad caught it in time and said, "Could you please put a new one on her instead of using that one?". This, among other incidents, is what we have to work with.

I'm sorry, but what the fuck hospital is this? Seriously, which one, if you don't mind? It sounds seriously messed up and it's bad name deserves to be known. With all of those unsanitary practices it's really no surprise that infection has set in. And, what, she doesn't meet their criteria without explanation and even though her Doctor said she needed it? Crap!

My thoughts are with you, your Mom, and your entire family.

Mr Awe

I'm keeping you and your family in my prayers, John.

Thank you, sweetheart.

Thanks, Mr. Awe. I won't give the name of the hospital, but suffice to say it's reputation isn't as stellar as it would like. It's a fairly brand new hospital, branded as a "hotel" type hospital, but all the work was put into the looks and the staff isn't up to snuff, it would seem. Most of them are students.

I'd ask to see the criteria.

I did. The social worker told me the criteria changes based on various factors (she was real nice and was apologetic), and that she rarely sees anyone successfully taken up to the rehab floor. I'm guessing it has something to do with insurance, but that's just a guess.

So? What's the downside? If they offer rehab, that's a good thing. Trust me, I've dealt with enough of them () in the last 4 years...there really isn't any difference if she's getting the rehab.

It's convincing her, that's the problem. It also doesn't help that the three that are on the list have terrible reputations for abuse and neglect.

Well, questions like "Would you like to walk again?" ought to convince her fairly quickly, I'd think...

This type of care makes me livid. Your mom, and all of the patients there, are entitled to the best care possible. This is the sort of thing people should get indignant over.

And, by not releasing the name, you're now part of the cover up. I don't mean that to insult you or anything, but really this information should get out PUBLICALLY. It's great that you and your Dad are taking notes and will contact somebody about this. But, the word should get out, not just reported in official channels where things tend to get hidden away.

Anyway, I know you've got tons of stress and I'm not trying to add to it. Honestly! Sorry! But, yes, I think you should not hesitate to get the name out and reveal the bad place not to go to. These kind of places count on people "being nice" and not saying bad things about them publically. That's how they keep going.

That "hospital" sounds like a Mickey Mouse operation that people should avoid.

Mr Awe

I feel bad today, since I could only visit for about an hour. I have some kind of stomach bug, a bit of a fever and sinus congestion, and I actually threw up in the bathroom while I was there, and I almost never throw up, so it's pretty bad. I know she's going to be upset and sad, but I can't help it. I still visited her, even if it was for only an hour, but that won't mean much, unfortunately. I feel bad over that, too.

Don't. The best thing you can do to help your Mom get to feeling better is to NOT visit when you don't feel well. People in hospitals have compromised immune systems already, otherwise they would not be there. Bringing in something from outside the hospital could very well extend your Mom's stay.

You're right, of course, but I have a guilt complex a mile long.

Edit: Mom called a minute ago. She asked me if I was okay, I explained everything to her (surprise, the nurses never told her my message), and she told me she was worried and I told her not to worry, that I just wanted her to get better, and she replied she'd get better and just wanted me to get better. It was rather sweet, really. Now, I should get better soon. I've got Coricidin HBP and Diabetic Tussin (:ack:), a box of Kleenex, a can of chicken noodle soup, some peppermints and just got my Toy Story 3 DVD from Netflix. I'll be back on my feet in no time.

Not without Graham Crackers and little green army men, man. You've got to have Graham Crackers and little green army men to get better.

Amen to that, my friend.
Oh, I finished Toy Story 3. Wow, what a tear jerker there at the end! Very bittersweet. Pixar hasn't lost that magically human touch.

TS3. Amazing movie.

Yeah, J, put your feet up and get better. You're much more use taking the time out to heal than forcing yourself there and being ill longer.

I cried like a baby. Particularly at the end.

I'm working on it. I'm about to get some more rest, as I will most certainly need to be at the hospital tomorrow morning to sign papers if she is allowed into rehab. We're hoping she will be, as she will heal much faster there.

Me too. I admit it.

That dastardly Pixar. First I cry at Wall*E, then UP, and now TS3. They're in league with Kleenex and I know it.
Anyhoo, I'm starting to feel a bit better, and so have pumped myself full of liquids and medications. I have to be at the hospital today, as it concerns her rehab chances. Dad will be working 12's, so he can't be there, so it'll be up to me as the other authorized representative for Mom.
