Your Holiday Wish List

All the things I really want I end up buying myself because I don't like the idea of people spending lots of money on me. My parents help me out with so many things that I never want them to buy me gifts (for example, when I bought my new car a couple months ago, my dad came with me and wrote a check for $2,000 to help with the downpayment, even though I was fully prepared to pay for everything myself).

My family and I do Secret Santa, and we usually have about a $30 limit, so it prevents us from buying big things for each other.

Amen. I've gotten some pretty generous and thoughtful gifts from family, though I would never expect them to spend a fortune. There's no reason I can't buy things for myself.

As for peace on earth and all that jazz, sure, that's fine. But those things can't be bought.

I already got my big gift (42" tv) about a month ago, as my mom said there was a good sale on at Sears, and asked if I would mind getting it so early.

Otherwise there's not much on my list. I usually list a few books and CDs I'd like, and I've asked for a new pair of curling shoes and a replacement brush head. I haven't thought of anything else yet, besides the annual Christmas Toblerone collection.

My parents still pay for most of my flights home for the holidays, which I count as a big part of my gift too (heck, the flights cost more than the TV did.... :p)

I want me and my loved ones to be happy and have free time to spend together.

- iPod nano (to replace my aging, 4.5-year-old iPod that's slowly losing its battery life)
- a blender (to make my own smoothies)
- random DVDs and video games that I've been wanting for a while but just haven't gotten around to buying myself
- money (always a useful gift)
- gift cards

* Lord of the Rings Trilogy Special Extended Edition on Blu-Ray

Not likely, since it isn't coming out before Christmas.

Bummer.

Well, at least I can cross out one other item (The Sims 3 for PS3). I went to Game Stop yesterday and traded in three old PS3 games I hadn't played in ages. I only got less than $14 worth of store credit, and since I had to renew my membership card and added subscription to Game Informer magazine (worth $15), I didn't get much of a discount; the game was on sale for $49.99.

Lately I find it hard to think what I want for Christmas. There are things I need or desire. It's up to me for the things I want, like a new job and somewhere else to live. Currently am trying to lose weight.

Honestly, I would love it to be a great 2011 and all that involves. If we're talking about things, stuff we want, well, I would actually like the Komplete Series Kommandant Kollection of Hogan's Heroes.

I would really like for this year's heating bill to not be as enormous as last year's - that would make my Christmas.

I always thought I was an easy person to buy for, but then comes Christmas when people ask me what it is that I would like...and I don't have a clue! :p

I do wish that my extended family(mostly my hubby's) wouldn't insist on buying gifts. we are all struggling a bit with lost jobs and less income, and I think just having all of us together is enough. And I have suggested the Secret Santa or not buying more than one gift per person, and let's just say that didn't go over very well.

I always wish for peace on Earth and goodwill towards all as well.

I always ask for the little things, the frivolous stuff that I wouldn't otherwise buy for myself but still want. My friends and family won't get that stuff for me, because they feel like it's a cheap gift. But, on the other hand, they can't buy expensive gifts, since no one has the money.

At this point in my life, I'm happy to get whatever I get. I don't NEED anything, but there's a few things that I'd like to have.

I don't NEED anything...

Yeah, same here really. I can't come up with a specific list: it would either have zero items or a million, depending on whether I listed random little luxury wants or not. None of them are really more wanted than any other, to be honest; they're all conceptually filed under "fun little treats" in my mind. :)

^That's what I do with my Amazon wishlist. I just stick things on there that I'd like to have but haven't bothered getting, or things I'd really like to have but can't justify the expense. I'm always adding or deleting things from the list and whenever someone asks what I want, I send them to the list. It's also a good way to remind myself where to find that particular item I plan to buy later.

That's a nice way to do it... but the problem with a concrete (albeit digital) wishlist is that you never forget about that random little treat that took your fancy one wet Wednesday afternoon.

I prefer to allow my hazy memory to continue doing its fine job of preventing me spending too much money by the simple expedient of forgetting just what it was I thought would be wonderful to have, once upon a time.

I'm a tremendous miser at heart. It's just I haven't figured out how to convince myself of that. So I rely on my subconscious draining the desire away gradually over time. :D

^Well, that is true. I have limited myself to a two page wishlist (about 30 things--some large, some tiny), so something had better be freaking wonderful for me to consider making room. Some things have been on there for quite awhile. Most just get switched up as my mood, or the item, changes.

Just went out and picked up some gift bags today. I have a Nutcracker for my Mom that is MUCH too tall to fit into any box or bag that I had in my gift wrap stash. I did manage to find a nice bag that wasn't too expensive that should do nicely.

I love wrapping presents.

I've actually started doing the same thing but on Itunes. Whenever I get Gift Cards, I never know what to use them for, but when I don't have gift cards, there are various albums that look "Hot" at that time and I wish I could get them. Now I just put things I find on the wish list and then go back later on to see if I really wanted it when I got the cards to go for it. So far it's helped for one purchase I made. It's a nice convenient way to list things that I might buy later on, kind of like what you said.
