I think there's a big competition between biggest fuckups in the NFL this season. I'm leaning towards Cowboys, but Redskins and Vikings are putting up a tough fight.
Don't sell the Broncos short.
Hey now.... as much as I have despaired on the season, Denver definitely doesn't belong in that category. There's a difference between losing and being epic fuckups.... Cowboys and Vikings are definitely in the latter category, and the 'skins are getting there. But the situation in Denver isn't there yet.
Or the Bengals. They're in last place in the division. That means they're below the Browns.

The whole situation is like whining about your 9.5 of a girlfriend until she breaks up with you, then ending up with a 4 that has a few miles on her, and openly pining for the old one to take you back.
It doesn't take much to look like a genius in the NFL. Most owners/GMs/coaches are SO incompetant that just not being RETARDED seems to be the biggest factor in being called a genius.
For example, look at the Patriots' current game strategy. They aren't really DOING anything. Keep the ball in front of you on defense, take what's given on offense, and try not to make any stupid mistakes. Works on 95% of the league, where the coaches and QBs are so ignorant or just mediocre that they can't even meet those lofty goals, and given enough time, WILL lay down and fold to the "just don't do anything stupid" gameplan.
The bar really isn't set that high; most teams seem to go out of their way to beat themselves...

Sure, Kyle Orton's having a record year, but accumulating yards between the 20s looks good, but doesn't help you win.
They may not be epic fuckups yet, but they're rapidly becoming irrelevant at worst, a punchline at best.

That's kinda my point though... all these other teams, along with sucking, have huge internal issues and drama and other aspects that make them a complete mess. Denver right now just sucks. We may be irrelevant or a punchline, but we can honestly say right now, "At least we're not Dallas," or ,"At least we're not Minnesota." I'll definitely take where we are over where they are.
The defense that McD acquired wasn't anything too earth-shattering. Much like his 2009 D, they started off strong and then got softer as the year progressed. This year is admittedly a lot worse than in the past, but you have to consider how many rookies and backups are having to see action. The D has been in shambles all year long.
As for McD pushing players out that are succeeding elsewhere, they've made of iffy moves, but they've apparently made some pretty good moves too. From the 2008 roster, they've released 32 players who aren't even playing in the NFL anymore. That has to indicate that they're doing something right. Give them another year. They're a young crew and they're still rebuilding. I think McD can right the ship.

We travel to Denver in November. Unless we find a way to win a road game somehow, you'll be able to give it right back.
Maybe I have higher expectations of my team. "Hey we don't suck as bad as Dallas" isn't going to cut it for me.
I also think that internal chaos isn't too far off. Pat Bowlen's rumored to be dealing with health issues (alzheimer's?) and is less and less involved in the team.
Coach McHoodie's my way or the highway attitude isn't playing well in the room and it shows on the field.
They gave up 59 points to the fucking Raiders. AT HOME. A team that's been the laughingstock of the NFL for at least a decade and the model of how not to build a franchise came into Mile High Stadium and hung over half a hundred on the boys in predominately orange.
Last week, they couldn't figure out a way to stop a 3rd string quarterback for a team that hasn't been able to spell success for nearly a decade if you spotted them the 's', 'c', and 'u'.
They were 3 games up in the division with 4 to play and gave it away to miss the playoffs.
Trading up to the first round to get Alfonso Smith? How'd that work out?
Jarvis Green and his big contract - how'd that work out?
These are guys who have to be able to make an impact.
How many practice squad players are in that 32?
The bottom third of NFL rosters are constantly in flux and being turned over.
How does that 32 number compare to other teams? I'd bet it's pretty comparable.
There may not be a ship to right in another year.
