But really, wasn't Pocket Books running a contest for a design for the Titan a few years back? As for a kitbash, there are only so many ways you can rearrange a saucer and nacelles.
Yes, Pocket was running a contest, and for whatever reasons, they chose one of the ugliest designs in the bunch. There were far better designs in the contest.
IIRC, I only ever saw two other designs besides Sean Toranganeau's, and his design actually was the closest to the description Pocket Books gave of the ship. Of course, that was the problem. Even he stated that he was not happy with the design even though he had won the contest simply because he had to follow PB's rules. I've seen much of ST's work, and he's far more talented an artist than the design of the Titan made him look.
The Titan and the Aventine? Would this new series have any people too or just, you know, the Titan and the Aventine flying around?
Seriously now, Riker and Troi would be fine, but I agree that the majority of the characters from the books would have to be jettisoned in favor of newly create characters in order to make a fresh start.
