The Dark Knight Rises Anticipation Station

Re: Third Nolan Batman film title announced!

Damn, that's a crappy title. Even "Rise of the Dark Knight" would better. Ugh.

And no Riddler? I have faith that whoever Nolan picks as the villain will be great, but I'm still disappointed about no Riddler.

Seriously, Nolan doesn't have to remake every villain from the Burton/Schumacher films.

Re: Third Nolan Batman film title announced!

No, he doesn't, but I think he could have done a really kickass version of the Riddler. I'm sure the villain will be awesome regardless, but a Nolan Riddler would have been pretty sweet.

Re: Third Nolan Batman film title announced!

I think the film needs something more than Batman vs. villain. Riddler is too similar in the public consciousness to the Joker, and I think it would come off as a real bad move on the part of the creative team to use a character that Joe Blow might see as a 2nd rate Joker...especially when considering all the "replacing" Heath Ledger talk it would create.

Who said anything about Burton/Schumacher? When I think of The Riddler, I think of the version as seen in the Timm animated series. I believe The Riddler is one of the more interesting villains in Batman's rogue gallery and I would love to see Nolan's version of the character. Alas.

Re: Third Nolan Batman film title announced!

I was hoping for "Na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na Batman." :(

The TV series

I catch the old series on TVLand all the time.
That's great if you do. Still shouldn't be a deterrent to naming A movie Caped Crusader, 50yrs later reruns or not.
But TVLand doesn't list Batman in their shows listing.

I have no problem with The Caped Crusader as a title besides the fact that I find it really cheesy (and a title Nolan never would have went with in a million years). I just took an issue with you discrediting the Adam West TV show- my friend, who is my age (early 20's) loves it and thinks it's the best, most fun incarnation of Batman to date. I know a lot of people who love the Adam West TV show and it just seemed like you were trying to discredit it.

I think Riddler would work as well. He is after all a classic AND isn't sci-fi otherworldly for Nolan's Gotham.

Characters I thought he could use and tweak as needed:
Riddler - bored intellect loner or hired hand
Black Mask - crime lord
Penguin - crime lord
Calendar Man - hired hand
Firefly - thug
Catwoman - dirty angel but not that dirty, anti-hero
Talia - international crime boss, ties back into Begins with Ra's
Bane - incoming street gang persona challenges crime bosses

Not at all. Someone else said Caped Crusader likely wouldn't be used cause it was associated with the TV show which isn't a direction they would want to go. That other comment must be what you were thinking of and I responded to that.
Classic mix-up.

Re: Third Nolan Batman film title announced!

Anyone can work if you do them right. Nolan's Batman isn't totally grounded in reality anyway, it just lacks a lot of the campiness that previous incarnations had.

Re: Third Nolan Batman film title announced!

I still think Mr. Freeze as a villain is good.

No. You were saying how because the original Adam West TV show rarely airs on TV and isn't on DVD it isn't on the minds of people enough to have any sort of impact- which is what I got from your post. I have to thoroughly disagree with that- I think the Adam West TV show has had an impact on our culture and while I'm not sure if the title The Caped Crusader is directly correlated to the old TV show, I think people both young and old still appreciate the Adam West series.

I actually agree with you. I loved with Timm's animated series did with the character. Problem is everyone immediately thinks of Arnold's take on the character which was, to say the least, utterly hideous.

I think in the next incarnation of Batman on the big screen hopefully we'll have a more comic-book visually representative approach and we can see some reinterpretations of some of the more interesting adversaries, like Mr. Freeze, who absolutely deserves another interpretation closer to the Bruce Timm animated series (and to remove the foul stench of the Batman & Robin characterization).

Re: Third Nolan Batman film title announced!

Also, The Riddler will NOT be the villain.

While the Joker stole the show in the second film, the film was about Bruce Wayne (and even Harvey Dent) more. Casting the Riddler could make the series too villain-centric.

Casting Tom Hardy as a villain (assuming that's what he's playing could also have that effect. He's become a real show-stealer.

Yeah, he stole every redeeming quality out of Nemesis :p

Seriously, he was fine in Inception, but that was a strong cast overall. What else was he in recently? There are plenty of good actors.

Re: Third Nolan Batman film title announced!

^ Note my use of the word 'become', implying that this is a recent development.

There's been Inception, Bronson, RocknRolla and on TV Oliver Twist, Cape Wrath and The Take.

Don't remember saying that there aren't plenty of fine actors.

Re: Third Nolan Batman film title announced!

Thank God this won't be following all the 3D rage. That being said, I'm also VERY happy they won't be using Mr. Freeze, though Nolan could have worked wonders with the Riddler. Personally, I'd love to see Nolan feature the Clock King in one of his Batman films.

Re: Third Nolan Batman film title announced!

I hate that he shoots in IMAX. It adds nothing to the story, and makes it only more expensive than it needs to be. Looking at this mega sized IMAX screen from the front row gives me neck pain, too. And not everyone has an IMAX theater around, it's unfair.
