SG-U - Cloverdale - (2x05) - (Discuss – Grade | SPOILERS)

I am a great defender of SG but that episode is possibly the final nail in the coffin for the show and the franchise. It may of improved in the 2nd half but that was a poor poor episode and easily the weakest for SGU to date. The writers need to realise the dislike for the Scott/Chloe relationship so to give an episode basically dedicated to them is suicide.

The ratings are virtually off the edge of the cliff and with baseball on last week and this week + this episode, expect to see SGU fall terminally flat to the ground.

cya SGU, we hardly knew thee but we wish we knew even less about Chole/Scott.

I can't say much else about it. I don't like anyone in the main cast and it's hard to actually care what happens to anyone. Plus the story sucked, it's been done better so many times on different shows.
I did like the FX shot where the monster got it's head chopped off in the kwoosh of the gate though, that was kind of cool.

As one of the few people here who actually likes SGU, I have to say this was awful.

Painfully awful. I had to force myself to watch to the end.

Complete waste of as episode. The trailer for the next episode looked really cool though.

- An interesting planet
- 'cloverdale' was fun
- Nice symbolism at the end

A huge improvement from last week. (which probably was the worst SGU episode yet)

Well, they paid for all the episodes, so I think they might air the rest of the season to recoup some money. I know that when they canceled SG-1 and SGA, they let them finish the season, so it seems likely.

The dream parts were weird, they didnt bore me per-se, but the lack of an explanation for why he dreamt this particular thing up seemed unfulfilling.

Having said that, on the whole I really enjoyed it. While the dream sequences were odd, they were a welcome change of pace and scenery for me and the planet stuff was fantastic. Sure, it wasnt the best episode ever, but im not going to bollocks the show for doing something different.

I think this episode was sort of meant as a "Kiss Off" to fans who hate the Scott & Chloe thing. There is no other reason for this vomit inducing crap. And I generally like the overall direction they were taking. And yes that sure looked like "The Talon" set from Smallville.

Going with a flat "average" (6 chevrons) for this one. The "Cloverdale" sections of the story mostly bored me, though it was somewhat interesting to see how little Scott thinks of himself through that hallucinatory state. If they hadn't bothered with that B-story, I probably would've gone with an 8 grade because I really enjoyed the alien planet events. It was also nice to see Park having a chance to offer analysis and be a contributing member of the team.

Also kind of wasted role for LDP.

Very annoyed by that.

Great Episode, first time i actually liked the crew and felt they actually gelled. Might of been cause the cast was acting normal in the dream which really made me like the cast.

Almost felt like an SG-1 Or Atlantis episode.

Did Eli looked thinner during hallucination part?

I noticed the exact same thing!

You know what I think it is, is that we've never seen Eli outside in a brightly lit area not surrounded by people or trees. Inside the dark areas of the ship it makes him look chubbier, but maybe outside he doesn't look as big. And maybe he is losing weight too working on the show. It would actually be a natural thing living on the ship too, it would make sense if he actually was losing weight, if you want realism, this needs to happen.

- I think if the hallucination of Scott had been about a return home after Destiny, I think it would have been a better choice.
- If only dream Young was real Young.
- At least they found a good role for James in Matt’s dream: Hooter’s waitress!

- I’ll agree with the comment of liking the crew more in the dream in the world. They seemed less like emo walking zombies and more like people. SGU really needs to lighten up and let it’s characters have some moments to smile.
- Nice to see Park doing something besides sleeping around.
- Young’s great plan to save Scott: send the only doctor your ship has back through the gate where she’s unable to help him.
- Flamethrowers? Next we’ll see they were able to get the sink from the Icarus galley before they left.
- Why do they keep putting TJ in command positions, she is not a leader in any sense of the word.
- Brody is awesome…in any universe.
- I love the juxtaposition with Rush’s vows and the music and the battle scenes going on on the planet.
- The last ten minutes saved this episode. SGU can really do decent endings to episodes, but they need to work on getting there.

The characters in the hallucination were entertaining... except Greer. Terrible acting.

Same here. I'm eleven minutes in ("dream" Chloe and Scott have just left the movie theatre, Scott freaking out), and already I want to watch something else.

Finally got to watch it about an hour ago, and I gave it 6 Chevrons, which might be generous, but it was better than I had expected. I'm still waiting for this show to really get epic - next week does look a wee bit better.

Some interesting twists on the characters, as seen through Scott's hallucination. Not really surprising that he viewed Young as a father-figure, but what's surprising is his apparent reticence about committing to Chloe.

They have a very small number of officers. Colonel Young, Lieutenant Scott, Lieutenant James, and Lieutenant Johansen. Since she's one of the only officers there (and James isn't a main cast member), she has to be in command if Scott and Young aren't in the picture.

I actually thought the hallucination was a nice change of pace for Greer, allowing him to have some fun and not be "angry man" for a little while. Of course, he also seemed to have some fun with the flamethrowers, which I suppose isn't much of a surprise...

I'm not too surprised by that. In a previous episode (the name of which I can't currently recall), he questioned Chloe if she thought they'd still be together if they weren't on Destiny. While it seemed more like he was questioning her commitment, I thought the scene opened the door to exploring whether or not he was.
