Glee Photos for Magazine too Controversial?

I don't think they're controversial, no.

I do however think that the "look" this photo spread is going for is entirely wrong for Lea Michele, and as such comes across as awkward and clumsy.

Dianna Agron and Cory Monteith look fine; but Michele's best "sexy" look has always been the teenage schoolgirl look she wears all the time on the show; that's part of the reason the glee version of "Hit Me Baby One More Time" worked so well -- Michele can sell that 'look.'
The GQ photo spread just makes her look trashy.

I don't see anything wrong with the photos. As stated, the actresses are both adults in their 20's.

Regarding Katie Couric's comments...I question how close she actually watches the show if she thinks it's "family" entertainment. There've been covert blowjob jokes. Last week there was a direct reference to "scissoring". Puck's a sex shark. Tertiary character Jacob got caught in the library masturbating to a Rachel Berry fantasy.

Eep. I'm getting pretty severe second-hand embarrassment looking at tht locker-room shot. :scream:

I'm ashamed to be an American.

This is fucking stupid! They were less on the Brintey Spears episode of the show!

PLus they are 24 and 28!

If you don't like the pictures than don't buy the magazine! Wow!

I'm sorry, but when someone says that photos of a 24 and a 28 year old are bordering on pedophilia the media needs to just laugh and walk away.

I'm angry that I even know about this.

So I'm visiting my mom/parents today and she's watching some The View-like show with Julie Chen, Sharon Osborne, Sara Gilbert, the wife from King of Queens and some other chick on there and they're discussing this issue.

And I was a bit... taken aback because the women were pretty much siding with the side of people freaking out about this (re: Puritans) and even censored out part of a shot of one of the women from the show sitting on a bench spread eagle. They said, similar to others, that it border-lined on pedophilia and that it wasn't appropriate for this to be in a magazine and one of the women expressed concern over their child seeing this photo. (or may have been an audience member or caller who said that.)

Numerous issues with this:

1. People need to learn what "pedophilia" means. It does not mean a teenager. Or a 20-something playing a teenager. Pedophilia is sexual attraction to a child! Someone who is pre-pubescent! Even if the girls on the show were teenagers it still wouldn't be pedophilia.

2. The magazine wasn't a magazine kids should be looking at anyway. That your little rugrat might see the photos in it by picking it off your coffee table or might see the (fairly tame in comparison) cover photo isn't relevant. If your child sees that and understands the sexualism in it you have failed as a parent.

3. Glee itself isn't a show for kids. Kids shouldn't be watching the show. The dances in it are sexually charged, the dialogue in it sexually laced and there's even been sexual themes in the show. (IIRC, one of the girls got pregnant last year and an episode a couple of weeks ago dealt with one of the boys wanting to touch his girlfriends boob's -even praying to Jesus to get to do it.)

4. Yes. I watch Glee. Want to make something of it?!

So this is a case of people crying out "Think of the children!" (Where is Mrs. Lovejoy?) Without, you know, parenting them themselves. A child isn't going to see the cover of this magazine or the pictures in it and be the least bit interested in it or even really understand what is going on about them or what it means. And if they do understand then their head is already filled with wank material.

Watch your own damn kids and let those of us who want to watch this show or read the magazine or look at these pictures do it. Sheesh. What is with people these fucking days?!

Exactly. There are far, FAR more important things to be outraged about in this world. And far more newsworthy things to be reporting on.

I've never seen the asshole of any of the Glee cast from the inside. So I ask, who is the greater corrupter of the innocent, Katie?

Before anyone goes on about puritan America, they should bear in mind that the main source of outrage for this comes from the Parent's Television Council, which is about 30 people who are responsible for 95% of the complaints to the FCC and much of the public campaigns against anything containing sexuality (especially homosexuality) and even mild profanity. They complained about the implied curse word in '#@!* My Dad Says.' They were the ones against showing some ass on 'NYPD Blue,' and who made a huge deal about Janet Jackson's covered nipple at the Superbowl. They build the uptight moms and repressed people of the country into a lather and make things seem like a much bigger issue than they actually are.

"Let's see... I could spend the next hour writing a letter to my representative bringing attention to the sex slave trade, child pornography and prostitution, or this. Yeah, definitely this."

Forest for the trees and all.... these people need to choke on their own feces.

Isn't this a show about a pregnant teenaged cheerleader who joins a singing group with a gay teenaged boy? And some people who watch the show think the pictures are too adult for kids?

People are stupid.

Besides, why are paedo's going to be looking at GQ, surely they'll be looking at the Matalan catalogue's children's clothing section?

Is any show on Fox a "family show"?!

She mentions in her commentary there that her teenaged daughter watches the show. Katie? I don't think your teenage daughter is going to be bothered by seeing the 20-something women in this GQ issue. Given that, you know, she's a fucking pubescent girl and gets to see a scantly dressed one every damn day of her life!!!

I've seen racier pics in Maxim magazine. The GQ shoot isn't all that racy. I don't get the big deal about it.
