A Niner Watches Babylon 5 (NO spoilers, please)

I don't like having to do this, but I think I'm going to take a break from this for a while. I have a lot of work to finish over the next few weeks and I can't justify the time I spend on this right now. I might just be a few days, I might be a week, I might not return to it until September, I really can't say. :( I'll still be posting on the board, but I wont be watching any new episodes.

What is this 'work' you speak of? Is it something related to this 'real life' that I've heard so much about? :wtf:

Will miss the reviews anyway, I have such a laugh reading them.

As for the X-Files parody...it didn't help that when I saw it back in '99 that I was already sick to death of that show, but on top of that the music again fails to deliver and falls rather flat IMO.
I watched a few episodes from the first three seasons of The X-Files while my brother and sister watched it, but then they stopped so I didn't see any more. All I can remember is that there was a bad guy that smoked a lot that they used to call "Cancer man", and I mistakenly kept calling "Candy man". :alienblush:

It's a thesis that I spent far too much time procrastinating on. I would never have gone back to college if I knew I had to write this thing. :( I probably should have paused this thread before starting Crusade rather than stop in the middle like this, but that's hindsight for you.

I might not completely quit, I might manage one or two a week depending on how things are going, but I wont do 5 or 6 a week like I have been.

The X-Files has great standalones throughout the series and a pretty good mytharc, at first.

The problem is that they didn't think the consequences of their mytharc through. As the show develops it becomes obvious that it is heading towards this epic War of the Worlds style alien invasion. The problem is that the X-files is a show about FBI agents doing FBI things, not about soldiers fighting alien invaders. After a certain point, actually advancing the mytharc would have utterly ruined the dynamics of the show. So they stalled, and backtracked, and asspulled to prevent this from happening. The result is that later season mytharc episodes don't make a damned lick of sense.

Now, the standalones, as I said, were always awesome. The chemistry between the leads is great, too.

For me, the episode fell flat by hitting the tone in exactly the wrong spot-- too straight to be true parody, but too many X-Files jokes to actually be solid drama. It tried to do both instead of picking a lane and driving down it, so the whole thing is a watered down, tongue-halfheartedly-in-cheek, sort-of parody.

You haven't watched The X-Files?

I think we have a candidate for your next thread after DS9. That, or you give up your geek card. ;)

I haven't watched The X-Files, and I don't really intend to, either. :p

Besides, his next thread after DS9 is going to be Farscape.

Do I get a say in any of this? Because I was thinking of giving up on it all and becoming a monk, I think it would be nice to live a simple life of solitude and hard labour.

Wait, I have to be religious to become a monk? Drat. :( I'm going to have to resort to pimping then, they're roughly similar professions.

Bah! That's democracy for you. I liked it better when we just picked green and purple scarves out of a barrel and beat each other into unconsciousness. Now that's the way to settle matters! ;)

Hoping that TGB might finish up with Crusade...

Also, posting this because folks have asked to be notified:
