We have lost TrekBBS moderator Mallory.

The Mal was the punster to which I can only hope to aspire.

(nuts man, I miss you :( )

These news made me really sad. He was a great guy. I have not been very active these last years but I have fond memories of our interaction in this board when we were new here.

If his family reads this, I want to pass my sincere condolences.

mallory will be missed by so many.
condolences to his family who ment so much to him.

Very saddened at this news. :( I've noticed his absence in the Admiral's Lounge over the last several weeks and have been fearing the worst. He was a very funny guy; some of my best sig lines over the years have been quotes from Mallory (usually after he'd had a drink or two  ). We have sons the same age and would often commiserate on the woes of dealing with teenage boys. I'll miss him greatly. :weep:

I liked to tease him about the time my school, Colorado State, beat Oregon in a bowl game. He was shocked that they could have done that! :mallory:

He was an Oregon Ducks fan.

He was shocked a lot over the years....

;)

Because of him, I was always rooting for the Ducks when they weren't playing Cal. If there is anyone who should be used to being shocked over the years, it's Cal fans. :p

Cal fans should be "used to being shocked"? They should be used to getting worked like a rib..

:p

I hope someday his family will get a chance to read all these posts, and get a little insight into what he was doing online all those hours. He certainly had an impact here in the virtual world, People genuinely cared for him, and respected him.

Sometimes we forget that behind these nicknames and avatars are real people with real lives beyond TrekBBS. I remember when a blogger I used to follow suddenly stopped posting. I assumed he'd gone on holiday or lost interest, only to see a post later indicating he'd died.

I didn't know Mallory personally, but the name is still one that I remember seeing many times since I first started visiting this place, probably around the time Mallory joined, actually. My condolences to his family and friends.

Alex

I didn't interact with him much, but from his posts I picked up that he was a pretty nice guy. Sorry to hear that he's gone.

We had a great time in the Vices' Lounge encouraging him and coming up with loony campaign ideas. Orac Zen posted an old thread about this last night. It was one of those threads that makes you laugh and cry at the same time.

Is there any way you can share some of the memorable posts here for those of us who are merely Rear Admirals or other forms of lower life?

Heh, anyone remember the first time he became an admin, and changed his avatar to that garishly yellow colored one? Oh, the crap we gave him for that one.

Here's one from TNZ. He'd had in his signature something about being so tough, he beat cancer a certain number of times. I thought it said 4, but the concensus here says 3 - which was why I went looking for the exchange in the first place.

Anyway, the group hugs start off at post number 123

I just heard about Mallory's passing at Wordforge in the thread started by Frontline. He was truly one of the good guys, and I was a big fan of his.

I will be praying for his family at this time. If he was half as nice in real life as he was here and at wordforge, then he was a fantastic guy.

A sad day indeed. I really liked Mallory the few times we discussed issues of TREK.

Mods; heads up. I just created this screen name today because I have been "banned" forever and just created this screen name so I could make a contribution ($). I don't think I have private message ability nor do I think I can send a private message. Could you please send me the information to contribute via a private message to me.

Thanks...
