Just received TAS in the mail...!

I realize this part of the forum is for TOS, but since TAS is TOS in animation form, thought I'd put this here anyway :)

I just ordered the TAS series on DVD from Columbia House and I'm glad I finally received it. I remember watching some episodes as a kid when they used to show reruns on Nickelodeon, and I'm kind of looking forward to them again. I never realized the show had so few episodes... but I will be watching them again soon!

What is your favorite episode from TAS?

Yesteryear is one of the strongest IMO - featuring the return of The Guardian of Forever. The series does contain many excellent stories throughout - enjoy!

Lucky you, lots of good watching ahead there :techman:

My favourite episodes are actually the sequels to TOS shows, things like More Tribbles, More Trouble, Mudd's Passion and Once Upon a Planet. But Lokai is right, Yesteryear is generally considered the best.

Favourite episode? I've got a few.

Beyond The Farthest Star
Yesteryear
Jihad
The Pirates Of Orion
Albatross
The Infinite Vulcan (guilty pleasure for the story)
The Slaver Weapon

I'm watching it now. It's a fairly good episode. I do have a question about it-- did some of this story somehow work its way into Star Trek XI? I noticed a lot of simularities, like with the kids & Spock and Spock talking to his father. Seems like both were pretty much the same subject. (No, I'm not complaining about continuity, I just noticed the similarities)

^^ Well TAS actually picks up and elaborates on a reference to this event in TOS' "Journey To Babel."

There's pretty clearly a direct homage there. No "somehow" about it -- the screenwriters were huge Trek fans and worked in elements from all over, including the Spock backstory from "Yesteryear," the fact of McCoy's divorce from his behind-the-scenes backstory, the first names for Uhura and Kirk's parents established in tie-in novels, etc.

Elements of "Yesteryear" were also referenced by Sarek in TNG: "Unification."

I found TAS enjoyable, but I can only watch one or two episodes at a time because the music is so repetitive.

Well chosen.
My TAS fave list would be almost identical.
I'd swap "Jihad" for "One of Our Planets is Missing."

That's the one thing that I dislike about TAS, the music.
Although most of the cues were reused ad infinitum, I still find them extremely enjoyable. I think TAS music adds to the feel and character of the show greatly. Certainly, it's infinitely preferable to most of the post Roddenberry muzak blandfest we were subjected to throughout the Berman years.

My most favorites:

More Tribbles, More Troubles
Yesteryear
The Counter Clock Incident
Mudd's Passion
The Time Trap
The Territan Incident
The Practical Joker

Same here. Filmation's music was the soundtrack of my childhood. Even when I wasn't watching the shows, I had the music running through my head. I never get tired of it.

Agreed - I like the TAS music, even if it is catchy and hard to get out of your head after watching a few episodes, it is definitely fun.

This thread inspired me to pull out my DVD set. This morning over breakfast, I watched three episodes:

Yesteryear
More Tribbles, More Troubles
The Survivor.

It's a rainy day, and I won't be going anywhere. I might have a second marathon.

Hear, hear. (Actually, no, I don't want to hear blandfest music!)
I bought the TAS with a gift certificate for coaching little kids' soccer. That, plus my fond memories of two TAS puzzles (AARGH! thrown out long ago) make me fond of TAS. But I like it better in theory than in actuality. Like people.

Ba da bing, no, but seriously . . .

WHYOWHYOWHY doesn't someone pitch a good, new animated Trek to/through Paramount? It would kill, and more important to the corporation, make some dough. And stoke interest for StarTrek12: In Search of Lens Flares or whatever.

Seriously, why not?
