Prayers, Please

Well, that's not great news, but it sounds like it's something they can deal with. Hopefully they can save her bladder, but if not there are still options. Good luck to her, J.

Sorry J, I have not seen this. You and your Mom are both in my prayers.

It's good to know she has options. It's good to know they have a plan in place for her, and I do hope she will come out of this with the best possible solution for her problems, so she can go on with her life.

Whatever she and the doctors choose, I am sure she will be all right at the end of this journey. Positive thoughts are still sent your way of course.

Thank you all very much. I do tell her about the prayers and good thoughts, and it seems to encourage her. An annoying event today, my Aunt found out, and it's the kind of Aunt who is a hypochondriac. She's a very negative person and my mom didn't want to tell her because she is so negative. Put it this way: she's so negative, she'd make Richard Simmons gain 60 pounds from eating ice cream due to depression just by being near her for more than 20 minutes at a time. Anyway, so she's getting upset and crying and everything and now mom's feeling the negativity from that and I've already decided I'm screening her calls from this point forward.

My Aunts don't like me very much (long story), so they don't deal with me very well, and it will make it easier to keep them from bringing down so much negativity on mom while she goes through all of this. Positivity is key. It really does mean the difference between life and death, between health and illness, so I'm doing my best to foster an atmosphere of pure positivity. All of your warm wishes and prayers help, they really do, and you've no idea how much they are appreciated.

Soory I'm late to the party but I sincerely hope that everything works out for your mum, buddy.

All the best.

I haven't been here for a few days and I am sorry that things didn't come out as you hoped. But I would agree with your doctor, she will feel generally better after they take out that sick kidney.
Whatever else come after that I am sure she will be ok with you taking such a good care of her. All the best to both of you, you are in my prayers.

At least it sounds fairly routine.

Sending good vibes and general positiveness.

Poking her toungue out at us! [DrSmith] Indeeeeed [/DrSmith]

You must be such a comfort to your mum, J.Allen, it's beautiful to see. I wish your mother the very best. Don't forget to be good to yourself every once in a while though, you'll be no good to her if you let yourself get too run down. Sending up a prayer for you and your family. :)

^ Thanks to all of you for your prayers and the warm, fuzzy comments. :D
Okay, update: Took her to her Urologist for the results of the nucleo scan. The doctor said after looking at the scan data sheets, her left kidney is actually functioning a bit, and so what he wants to do instead is perform an ileal loop urostomy diversion. He said the bladder has just utterly failed on her and is now useless, due, according to him, the paralysis she had a decade ago from the Sarcoidosis. He said over the past 10 years since he last checked her kidneys, the left one had steadily degenerated due to the bladder's inability to work properly, and is the cause of that kidney's damage. He also believes that by performing the ileal loop diversion, her left kidney will regain more of it's functionality.

So, that's everything as it is. She's supposed to have the surgery on Nov. 4th, and will be in the hospital for a week.

So some good news and some bad news. I read somewhere that they are now literally building new bladders for people who need transplants, maybe you could look into it?
And it is really good news about regaining the functionality of the kidney, I'm glad to hear that. Fingers crossed for the surgery, of course. :)

Well, that's not the best news, but certainly not the worst. Best of luck to her. I hope the surgery goes well and her kidney function improves.

Hey J., I'm late to this thread too, but your mom has good vibes coming her way from me. As shitty as this situation is, she has an explanation for what's happening to her and surgery date. Both good, considering.

I remember too well the stresses our family when through whenever my dad found himself hospitalized with yet another major heart episode. It's a wretched experience to have a parent in the hospital; you deserve some good vibes too.

Best of luck to your mum!

Thanks, TheBoo. I'll pass it along. :D

Great minds think alike! I've looked into it and have done some laymen's research, but the downsides are that the bladders have to be cathed because most of the time they don't properly eliminate the urine.

Thank you, RJ, I'll pass it along. It is better news than we thought, and it's definitely better than a removed kidney.

Thank you, Bears, it is appreciated, and I promise I won't let it bring me down. If mom could survive 3 months in the hospital due to a degenerative nerve disease (which she did back in 1994), she can tackle a week for this procedure, and this time I'm old enough not to run wheelchair races down the hospital hallway *cough*andgetcaught*cough*. :D

Isn't there a dialysis option?

What a pity we don't have Dr McCoy to grow a new one!

I'm sure your mom will come through it.

:techman:

Well, darn. At least it is a step forward, and medicine these days is always hopping ahead in leaps and bounds, so you never know when the next great discovery/invention will come around. :)
I hope at the very least this surgery will improve your mum's qualty of life.

I do sincerely hope the surgery goes smoothly and the kidney retrieves as much as possible of its normal function. All the best. Wishing hard for good results.
