Why did you choose your login name and avatar?

I thought a lot about this. I chose "shatnertage" because it was Trek-related and kind of humorous. The other option was "Dr. Hmmm?" as a riff on William Hartnell. I'll probably change it when I can think of something cooler.

My first avatar was the Taran beast from DW "Androids of Tara," a laughably bad costume. If I could have found a decent screenshot of the Myrka, I probably would have chosen it.

My current avatar is from a book I read to my daughter called The Day the Goose Got Loose. After a hard day at work, I looked at the ram (the goose is taunting him just outside the crop) and said, "Man, that's what I feel like."

Sometimes it's the way I feel on here, too. I get the feeling I don't take this quite as seriously as some other people, and when I realize that I've just spent an hour reading lengthy arguments pretty trivial stuff, it's how I feel. But it's all in good fun.

It's my real name. Couldn't think of a good login name that I wouldn't get tired of at some point.

My avatar is currently part of an anthropomorphized picture I drew about First Contact. I've had this one for a long time now, but I usually have something I've drawn.

I like 24 and Maggie Q is in a new show. She's ht so she's my avatar. I should be changing it soon though since I like to have different avatars.

Entirely valid point! Ha! So which of you is in the Army, you, your hubby, or both?

The hubs. I am entirely too right-brained to be tempted to lead such a disciplined life.

 Yeah, I think of myself as a "casual fan" but somehow spend way too much time on this site and have bookmarked way too many Trek-related sites to be able to say it's only casual.

Everyone thinks I'm some sort of egotist when they hear "King Daniel", but the name actually comes from a time when I walked into a room to hear a somewhat angry, animated person finish the sentence, "--KING DANIEL!!"

I don't remember why they were mad at me (we're cool now), but the name stuck in my head (minus the "THAT FUC--" that apparently preceeded it), became a inside joke with my family for a while and then eventually my online name.

My avatar is a pseudo-Enterprise from the cover of the book The Best of Trek #5, a collection of old fanzine articles. I love reading what fans from before my time (I'm 26) thought of Star Trek, it's characters and it's universe. I'm tempted to swap it for a lovely nuEnterprise, but I have enough trouble keeping up with who's-who when everyone else keeps changing theirs.

i'm captcalhoun because Captain Mackenzie Calhoun of the New Frontier novels is my favourite character and a complete badass.

my current avatar is Chris Hemsworth as Thor from next year's Marvel movie. it'll change when Marvel publishes some decent pics of Thor in the movie in action. this one's a screencap from the comic con footage.

i generally use avatars of the next big movie i'm looking forward too.

Bonnie is my real name. Bonz is a nickname for it. T' in front of it made it Vulcan. This was before my half-Romulan personality took over and beat the hell out of and subdued the Vulcan half. ;)

My av usually has a T'Bonz in it. The original was made by Starbys and Biotech accessorized it. It's what got me noticed amongst the throngs here back in 2000, always a good thing for a Leo to be noticed. :D

Now I make the avs myself as I have time. Sometimes I put the female Romulan Commander because she is Romulan and leads and she amuses me. She was dumb in being seduced (or almost so) by Spock, but who can blame her? ;)

I wanted a nondescript anonymous sort of name, it suited my mood at the time, and of course it sounded more trek-like than my previous handle.

My avatar because The Original Series has become my favourite trek incarnation... I re-discovered it recently and decided I liked it more than ever, and Kirk most especially. JonathonWally was kind enough to glam and bling the image for me. :D

spinnerlys is a combination of the German word "Spinner" (weirdo, nutcase) I got when I was in eleventh grade or so by some female classmate of mine I had an unbelievable crush on and "lys" is Danish for "light", and as I like the sound of the Danish language (saw my first porn in Denmark, must have stuck, though it was from Australia and I was 12 or so), it somehow stuck. The word "light" came from an image I drew in 9th grade or so and titled "lucis umbrarum" (yeah, I later found out, that the proper declination of "lux" is "luces").

The avatar is an extract/crop of a photograph I took and staged. The larger version can be found here or here, but I can't find it right now, though it is a photograph "worth" for my photoblog. Hmm, must be getting senile.

The "psycho" half comes from a trip to Australia I went on with the People to People Student Ambassador Program. A few of the friends I made while on the trip started referring to me as "crazy" or "psycho" for various reasons as a joke. "Pere" comes from a shortening of "peregrine" (as in the falcon) from my days in my first IRC chatroom where I used peregrine as my full handle. One of the individuals in that channel, in fact, introduced me to this board.

I usually change my avatar every so often, though I've had my current President John Sheridan avatar for, oh, probably something like a year or so now. I had left the board for a while but came back recently and haven't changed it since I returned. I chose the avatar because Babylon 5 is one of my favorite television series. The quote in my signature is one of Sheridan's, as well, from the series finale, which is one of the best finales I've ever seen.

the 'real' Miss Chicken is my beloved three legged cat. I decided to take her name to show my appreciation of her.

The avatar is simply an angle that the 'real' Miss Chicken often flashes at me and I thought it would send a worthwhile message to other members on this board.

SPCTRE is also my Xbox Live Gamertag - it's a reference to an elite group of agents preserving galactic stability as depicted in the Mass Effect games.

My current avatar is Kat-320, a character from Halo: Reach (Xbox 360) that was featured in an amazing live-action trailer for the game:

I'm sure I told the tale before, but here it is.

Literally, "iguana tonante" is Italian for "thundering iguana". It all started with a cheap necklace I bought from a street vendor many years ago, you know, one of those lame pseudo-tribal things (kind of like this one), but it looked cool and I liked it. The one I had was shaped sort of like a lizard. Much to my chagrin, people inquired constantly about the meaning of it, as if it were a secret symbol or something, so I conjured the tale of the mighty and wise Thundering Iguana, god of truant lizard that liked to lie in the sun, and whose long, powerful tail whipped around causing the unexplained thunders you sometimes hear on cloudless summer days.

I loved the sheer silliness of it: the gentle, peaceful iguana shrouded in mysterious and vaguely Wagnerian overtones. I always told it with a straight face: most people laughed at it, but some were genuinely intrigued by it as if it was some sort of ancient cult. With time, it got out of hand, and people started calling me Iguana for real. Somehow it stuck even when I stopped wearing the necklace (I still have it, tho), so when I needed an anonymous handle for the forum, it was the first thing that sprang to my mind. The rest, as they say, is history.

The avatar is much more recent: I had pictures of iguanas for a long time, then I changed to the current one for the last World Cup (during which, incidentally, Italy sucked so hard they could inhale soccer balls through a garden hose), but I was too obstinate to change it after we were eliminated in the first round. True to my namesake, laziness made the rest. I may change it again for Halloween, tho.

I don't know where the munificent comes from, but I call myself Nick because my real name is John.

I chose my avatar because it is grand final week and we are going to take home our fifteenth premiership this year.

Most people know the story behind my name, ElimParra - but again. Elim represents Elim Garak, my favourite character of all Star Trek characters. The "Parra" part comes from Parramatta Eels, the team I support in the NRL.

My avatar is Sheldon Cooper from Big Bang Theory.

Um...I like Star Wars.

Also, my original login name was just my name and my birthdate (and I doubt anyone here remembers it), and it was lame, so I wanted something a little more unique and memorable.

My name was something I thought would be appropriate for a Star Trek forum... no other real reason. My avatar is usually concurrent with my latest obsession (have yet to change it), at the time I added this one I was obsessed with the Hellsing OAV's.

I chose Goliath because I'm tall. And because my RL name is David. And because it sounds cool. And for a couple of other equally trivial reasons.

My current avatar is the evil Infinata--master of Dimentia-5--a character who appeared in two television cartoons I watched a lot as a kid: Rocket Robin Hood, and Spider-Man.

1. The dog. Some of the names I had lined up were taken already (which I had never seen, not even once by the way), and the dog was laying there by the desk at the moment...

2. The Chespeake & Ohio Canal along the Potomac from a few years back. I'm tired of it these days but I'm not able to make a new one right now.
