WHY

I'm curious to know why every time the Doctor regenerates it's a new guy, why hasn't a woman played the role of the Doctor yet?
GO AHEAD, RIP ME A NEW ONE, I DON'T CARE ANYMORE!

James

I'd just assume that it's because the Doctor is a male character. He can have all sorts of variations to him, and I don't even think his changing skin color would be an issue. But at the end of the day, the Doctor is just inherently male.

It's not really a question of "can't." It's a question of "what's the point?" The Doctor, and every incarnation thereof, has been male since the 60s. Changing the Doctor to a female now would just be bizarre.

Well what's the worse that can happen it split the fandom? And I doubt if the reaction would be any greater than the reaction to the first pictures of Christopher Eccleston in his outfit.

Good. I love my Doctor Who bizarre. The more bizarre and unpredictable, the better, yes?

Nah. I prefer Doctor Who intelligent, witty, fast, and funny. Unpredictability comes from superior scripts and directing, and bizarre is in the eye of the beholder. Either way, it doesn't matter. The whole Female Doctor thing is all conjecture and not reality. So, I guess for those that need to believe it, it's whatever floats that fantasy boat on those long, lonely nights of social injustice... :techman:

I find it ironic that your own Douglas Adams quote makes a mockery of everything you're arguing in this thread.

And yet, my point remains. It's a complicated old universe, isn't it?

I think one of the reasons is because a good portion of the audience is children. When they regenerate a Doctor they have to convince the kids that this new guy is still the Doctor. That might be a leap too far for them.

Personally I think it could work with the right actress. She just needs that right level of weirdness and charisma.

I'm against the idea of a female Doctor as the next regeneration solely because it would mean Patterson Joseph wouldn't be cast as the Doctor again.

I think PAterson's time is passed now unfortunately. That said I think he could do a wicked Master.

I think there's a vast difference between "This might be interesting to try and worth exploring, so why not give it a shot?" (which I would agree with under the right circumstances)

and

"Not having a woman as the Doctor means the show only has weak/useless women and therefore it is MISOGYNIST!!1!!" (which is ridiculous)
