Is Chuck worth watching?

I just finished up a few series (Nip/Tuck & Boston Legal) on Netflix and am looking to start a new one. Is this show worth my time?

For reference, here are some shows I like: Star Trek (obviously), The Office, 30 Rock, Dexter, House, Doctor Who, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Big Bang Theory, True Blood (and most HBO shows), etc.

I'd welcome any other show recommendations that have a few season out on DVD.

Absolutely. Chuck is one of my favorite shows. It's humorous, has a great cast, and very rewatchable. It does get repetitive a couple of times, but overall I've loved it.

I had a blast with Chuck. Blew threw three seasons in about three weeks and felt sick afterward but it was worth it. :)

The only other show I did that for was Dexter.

Definitely. It's funny yet occasionally dramatic, full of eye candy, has a great cast, and some good action scenes as well.

It's an awesome genre show made for nerds and it's hilarious.

One warning though.. if you're anal about logic and realism then stay away from it because at times the show can and will ignore these two for a laugh or to get a plot rolling.

It is light entertainment but in that it excels.. i've rarely felt bored with it.

I would say yes, with a few reservations. It is highly entertaining and often hilarious, but the plots can be utterly repetitive and some of the dramatic aspects aren't handled nearly as well as the humor. If you can get past the fact that the show often has to manufacture drama for no reason other than to maintain a certain status quo, it's well worth it.

I watched the first several episodes and loved it, then for some reason I just stopped watching. Late last season I watched a few more and loved them.
I plan on getting the DVDs from Netflix and starting over.

One of my all-time favorite shows. It's fun and has a lot of heart. It does suffer occasionally from being a bit too formulaic, but even at its worst, it's still pretty entertaining.

That pretty much sums it up. I like it for now, but I think four seasons is about all they need to do for this particular premise. There are several terrific comic actors in the show (Zach Levi, Ryan McPartlin, Adam Baldwin and the unbeatable team of Vik Sahay and Scott Krinskey as Jeffster), and when the show ends I'm looking forward to what they all do next. :bolian:

I thought CHUCK was a really dumb idea for a show when I first heard about it.

It screamed "Jake 2.0" meets "Get Smart"

I based this off of the trailer before the show had aired of the ninja trying to steal something from Chuck's Apartment.

Needless to say, the show premiered, I saw a few of the first episodes and guess what! - I still didn't care for it... The show wasn't giving me what I was wanting, based on what I had expected it to be.

It wasn't until I caught a few episodes late towards the end of Season 1 or beginning of Season 2 (after largely forgetting about it) that I started to better understand and accept this show for what it was.

That's the time when I was introduced to the underlying mythology of the show and 'story points' that would go on to be big parts of future season arcs.

So all said and done, CHUCK is now a show I enjoy watching very much and one I'd say is worth your time to check out as long as you remember to not take it TOO SERIOUSLY and enjoy the relationships between the characters.

Chuck starts out a little unevenly and really doesn't hit its stride (IMHO) until season 2. Yes, it can occasionally be downright goofy--if you're looking for complex, realistic drama, you're out of luck. The script dictates the logic, rather than the other way around. It can be fairly uneven at times and it has some rather mediocre episodes, but when they get it right, they REALLY get it right. The characters are very likable and the second-string characters really elevate this above the average action-comedy.

But, Chuck is fun--a lot of fun. It's silly, it's full of nerd-culture references and makes fun of itself while still putting on a good show.
If you're a nerd, a geek, a fan of action films, or ever worked retail, you will really enjoy Chuck.

Is is bad that when I roared my way through the second season DVD set I found dirt cheap the other month that I found myself far more entertained by what went on in the Buy More than with the Intersect 2.0 and Orion...?

I enjoy the show, but am bemused by preferring the daft BuyMore-plot to the A-plot. There are moments where you quite clearly see this is a sitcom structure bolted onto a conventional spy show. Or is it the other way around???

I've still yet to watch Season 3, but now doubt I'll get there

Hugo - I can't...tell you how many times I defiled myself at work. Emmett cured me of that. Now I only violate myself at home or in the car. But never in the Nerd Herder.
