Lone Star

Landed

Lieutenant
Did anybody watch this? It came highly recommended, but the ratings were crapola, so I'm thinking that I must of been the only one who saw it last night.

I thought James Wolk was great in the lead role and he and David Keith worked really well together as father and son. The show dragged a little in the middle, but overall, I liked it. Somehow, I think the premise is unsustainable, even if Fox keeps the show around, which I know looks doubtful.

The billboard advertising here in Los Angeles has heavily emphasized the angle of a man getting to sleep with two different gorgeous women, and that immediately lost my interest, so it hasn't been on my radar at all. Actually, with that kind of advertising, I'm surprised it did so poorly in the ratings. A big shame that it's actually worthwhile, but struggling in the ratings.

It was my favorite pilot over the last two days, so I'm disappointed nobody (the Nielsens households that may or may not exist) watched it. They probably should have put it on a week before the Event.

Lone Star? Is this show about Space Balls or something? :rommie:

Nope. But I'm afraid people, even young people, will hear that whenever this title is said. It's all I heard when I heard the commercials were the characters in the movie saying "Lone Star!"

I thought that it was actually quite terrible.

I don't think the hype accurately portrayed the nature of the show correctly.

I was expecting something much more exciting.

I thought it was something like Hustle or The Riches after reading the description, but it turned out to be something much more boring and predictable than that.

This shows that no matter how much critical acclaim something gets it doesn't mean it'll do well. Maybe no one's in the mood to watch a show about a con man.

Maybe.

Or maybe it's just on in a bad time slot.

I hadn't seen any promotional material for the show aside from a review I had read on Aint It Cool a few hours before the show actually aired. Like I said, I enjoyed it, hoping Fox gives it a chance.

It aired opposite The Event, right? That may have hurt it some. I dunno. The ads just didn't seem appealing at all.

Really? Do your eyes work? The ads were EVERYWHERE! Fox had more ads for the show than any other show all summer long.

The ads for it put me right off. It looked like something from the 80s---some over-directed show about slick con men/crooked businessmen who get all the girls/cars/etc.

Bleh. No thanks.
