I voted 'dog' although I did find Porthos problematic on "Enterprise". Don't get me wrong, he was as cute as all get out but what a scene stealer. I'd see him run through a field on an away mission or lie there looking like he was listening to the conversation and I would be like "Bring back the dog! The heck with this week's story..."

Then there came a few episodes in a row where there was no Porthos at all. I had to quit watching in protest.

Okay, seriously he became my favorite character and when I realized that decided the show wasn't doing much for me.

Thats not right, nelix would have appreciated getting pet most by The short hair girl he fell in love only had a 9 year life span. I never remember her name.

I am totally biased as Im a dog lover and owner. I would have had some German Sheperds that were under the security section just like they use patrol dogs in our Military.

Tuvok with a German Shepherd by his side, I can see it now.

Ofcourse, the dog could have had special intuitive powers if they wanted to make it a little freaky, but then most owners would say, they already do! LOL!

I voted for a cat. I could see Fluffy, Muffin, or Snowball getting up on the tactical work station setting of all sorts of missiles and alarms. Or climbing up on the con making the ship steer off unexpected causing Janeway to spill her coffee. She'd mumble something about why didn't they get a dog.
