WHY

I'm curious to know why every time the Doctor regenerates it's a new guy, why hasn't a woman played the role of the Doctor yet?
GO AHEAD, RIP ME A NEW ONE, I DON'T CARE ANYMORE!

James

Oh and to answer the question: The Doctor is a male. Males aren't women.

If you don't care anymore then why did you post in the first place? The question of why a woman has never played the role is an interesting one and has been discussed in other threads. Moffat I believe has even addressed this before as well.

because having the Doctor change from a bloke to a woman is a leap too far when you've got to convince people he's still the same person as William, Patrick, Jon, Tom, Peter, Colin, Sylvester, Paul, Christopher, David and Matt.

Whoever said Timelords can be multi gender?? The only slight reference was 11 thinking he was a girl but you can chop that up to post regeneration crazyness. Maybe on a rare occation renegenertion can switch genders but i would doubt that it is any type of normal thing.

Sort of like uh-oh, now how did that happen!?
And from what few replies there are in this thread, it sounds like the males want things to stay just the way they have been since the series started in 1963.
I think a female in the role of the Doctor would be a nice change ever one in a while.

Exactly. There wouldn't be any logic to it, so it would be an aberration of every previous regeneration we've seen.

Hmmm. Depending on how that's read....

Listen, my take is this: Every regeneration we've ever seen in the last 50 years of Doctor Who, whether it was The Doctor, The Master, or Romana, the bottom line is that we have never seen any evidence that regeneration changes sex. Species, maybe, but not gender. So, to suddenly introduce that into Doctor Who because it would be "a neat thing to do" would be akin to recasting James T. Kirk as a woman. And really, didn't we all (except OmahaStar) hate The Man Trap? ;)

You should check out Moffat's Curse of the Fatal Death episode. You can get about five minutes of Joanna Lumely as The Doctor... :techman:

That reminds me....have we ripped him a new one lately? I don't remember getting the memo...

Well, as a female who has watched Doctor Who since the '70's, I disagree. The character of the Doctor is male. A gender swap would be too weird and I think would alienate a lot of the fan base.

No. The Man Trap was a really good episode, especially for being so early in the series run. That had a shapeshifter morning into the bodies of its victims. Do you mean Turnabout Intruder, which was terrible? That was a body swap episode with Kirk and Lester swapping. Though Sandra Smith was a much better actor than Shatner, it doesn't change my opinion ... the episode was terrible.

I meant to check my reference before posting. Fuck me.

That makes sense. Turnabout Intruder ... What would make you think I was a fan of that one? Yikes. It didn't even give Majel something to do.

Not in front of the Klingons. :guffaw:

Oh young Majel...

Oh, and I was just jabbing you with an assumed love affair of a crappy episode, in a somewhat wry wink at your pre-existing love affair with the Sixth Doctor. I honestly didn't know whether you liked it or not. ;)

I know. That's what made it funny.

And you make it sound like I'm the only one who thinks the Sixth Doctor was the best of them all. Everyone agrees, he's awesome. True fact!
