For TSQ and other Scrabble Enthusiasts

Once I got a triple-triple with HATBOXES. Or perhaps it was one triple a turn after the other by adding the ES, I don't remember.

Good on them, although I really find it off-putting how quickly the experts were disregarding the two men and their accomplishment. The general sentiment was like "Oh, well yeah he has a record breaking score, but as a player, he's no good, so it's okay, our pride is still intact." Or, to put it another way, "Well, yeah, he paints like Van Gogh, but he's just a house painter, while we're professional artists, so what he's painted isn't really art."

Best Scrabble Score I've ever gotten is around 500, which -IIRC- included a triple-triple with a Q.

But I think (re: the article) a lot of that is luck on what and how the other player plays and the letters you get.

I understand their point. For example, if Wilt Chamberlain had scored on a team that didn't care whether or not he scored, would his 100 point game be valued as highly? That being said, I haven't come remotely close to what he did, so I'll give him credit for the record. What he did required luck, skill, and opportunity. He had to know the words he played, had to have the letters to play them, and actually play it at the right moment.

That sounds fair. Now if only I could beat his record. His other record. :shifty:

The record for the biggest lie? :p

Seriously, he was a great basketball player, but humble he was not.

Oh yeah, I agree. Awesome player, not afraid to show it. In fact, maybe a little too willing to show that talent. As for his other record, even so, to this day I can't watch Conan: The Destroyer without laughing at the idea of Wilt Chamberlain protecting a young woman's virginity.

Awww, I love being thought of as Scrabble obsessed. Though I'd already read the article! :)

My personal highest game score was 640. My highest single word score was ADJOINT, for 200 even.

Today my mother and I played Super Scrabble (my highest game score in which is 1234), and it was great. I got 4 bingoes (PRAETOR, UNHINGED, READIES, and, TIGRESS) and my mother got two (FOIBLES and PLASTER). My favorite bingo I ever played was BINGOES.

I was playing my mom once and got a Bingo on the opening play, she played, then I got another Bingo on my second play and, IIRC, between those two plays I had even used the Q and the Z add into that the DWS for the opening word and I already had close to 300 points. She forfeited as she only had twenty-something. (I need to look at the score notebook to see what the words, actual score was.)
