Who Here Meditates?

Shoot, I'm to the point now where I can meditate while driving (but I don't!).
Heh, I must say that I often black out when I drive on well-known roads. I still drive perfectly, respecting limits and prudence, but my mind works on its own. In case I need it my mind snaps out in no time (I did manage to avoid collisions in a couple of instances), but it's always weird to find out I drove for 20 mins and I have no recollections of that.

I've done the same. When I first start dating the woman who I'm now married to, we lived 500+ miles apart. I got very used to making that drive. One stretch of interstate was about 270 miles long. My mind would compensate for the boredom by zoning out for long periods of time. I'd often snap out of it, check the next mile marker, and find I was 10-20 miles further along than I'd thought. Never once had any accidents or even near-misses.

I used to meditate every day, sometimes two or three times a day. But my mom caught me doing it in the bathroom once and I haven't been able to do it since. :(
Damn, I was going to start a “Who Here Masturbates?” parody thread, but you beat me to it. (No pun intended.)
. . . .But here lately I have been having trouble focusing. I can do the relaxation and have no issue ordering my thoughts but I haven't been able to activate my chakras in over a month.
My chakras haven't been active in years! Not only that, I keep forgetting my mantra.

I used to meditate, but I've gotten out of the habit. I keep meaning to start up again, since I was much more relaxed when I did, but I'm having trouble making the time.

I tried meditating last night, but no matter what I did, random thoughts kept entering my mind. Maybe I was trying too hard (like trying not to think of a pink elephant), but no matter how relaxed I was, I couldn't keep my mind clear. Any advice on techniques for true meditation?

I don't meditate, no. I do listen to New Age music, but I don't get into the philosophy and meditation and all that stuff about 'chakras' (whatever the hell they are  ). The music just calms my nerves.

Chakras are actually quite interesting to read about (and experience if you believe in such).

Lately I have been trying to practice a certain type of meditation called mindfulness. Although it has its roots in the Buddhist tradition it as increasingly been studied and used in modern cognitive psychotherapies. Unlike some meditations were you focus on something, mindfulness wants you to clear your mind of all thought and just be present with yourself in the moment. Any thought that enter your mind do not make judgments about them just observe them and let them go. Its goal is to help one become more involved in ones day-to-day life and more focused on what is important to you

Admiral Young you might want to take a look at it because there has been a lot of research into it as a tool to cope with chronic pain.

I prefer mindfulness meditation. I become nothing but a casual observer, and stress radiates away from me and I am able to find a peaceful center. It is most pleasurable.

I used to meditate, but the constant tinnitus I have these days is a real spanner in the works.

It does distract, especially when the room has become completely silent, so I just make it the tone of my meditation and hum in that key, creating harmonies and focusing the third eye on projection. It brings everything together and the tinnitus as a distraction disappears.
