That would have been his fourth appearance, though...
^The actor actually died right around the time of the film's premiere. It's like he knew he was going to go (Although he didn't die of old age but a car accident).
It came up over in the PotC4 teaser thread about the marvelous scene in which Jack Sparrow is introduced seemingly at the mast of his ship, with a pull back that reveals the ship is rapidly sinking. Not that Jack seems to mind as he steps casually off the mast onto the dock. An entrance which captures the wacky humor of the character perfectly.
What are other great character introductions? And while we're at it - what are some of the great last scenes for memorable characters?
I'm surprised that no one's mentioned Admiral Kirk's first entrance in TWOK. IIRC, the DVD commentary said that they reshot it with the backlighting to make it a grander entrance..

"I'm gonna make this pencil" [spreads hands] "...disappear!"
How has no one mentioned Indy in Raiders?!

That was the Joker's second appearance in the movie, however...
Cameron Diaz's entrance in The Mask was the hottest she ever looked. Then it quickly went downhill for her.
Tim Curry as Dr. Frank N. Furter, coming down the elevator in The Rocky Horror Picture Show.
Greatest. Entrance. Ever.
