Greatest Character Entrances and Exits

^The actor actually died right around the time of the film's premiere. It's like he knew he was going to go (Although he didn't die of old age but a car accident).

That would have been his fourth appearance, though...

You're right. That episode was so strong that I had pegged that in my mind as Locke's first lines and appearance other than an extra. The strength of the episode and opening made me place the amazing backgammon monologue and the finding of Vincent as after Walkabout.

Very true. It made it even sadder. He had said the was planning on retiring before the next movie but never actually got the chance to turn down the part.

It came up over in the PotC4 teaser thread about the marvelous scene in which Jack Sparrow is introduced seemingly at the mast of his ship, with a pull back that reveals the ship is rapidly sinking. Not that Jack seems to mind as he steps casually off the mast onto the dock. An entrance which captures the wacky humor of the character perfectly.

What are other great character introductions? And while we're at it - what are some of the great last scenes for memorable characters?

Off the top of my head:

*I recall seeing Return of the Jedi(back in 83'), and people reacting when Jabba the Hutt came onscreen.

*Roy Thinnes making his very brief appearance in the horrid television sequel to the The Invaders was cool; because it was like a legendary actor appearing in a show in my lifetime.

*Leonard Nimoy yet again appearing in Trek as Spock, specifically nuTrek2009, showing that Trek will grow and continue.

*Doctor Who #5 (Peter Davison) returning and exiting as The Doctor with David Tennant's #10 in the television special.

*Sean Connery's character exiting (to never come back) in Finding Forrester....(And as I type this, I remember that scene being very, very moving)...

In that same movie, I heard gasps when Matt Damon shows up in the end to give the news of what happened to Connery's Forrester.

"Greetings. I am Juan Sánchez Villalobos Ramírez, Chief metallurgist to King Charles V of Spain. And I'm at your service."

- Sean Connery appears in Highlander

"I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I've watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser Gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in the rain. Time to die."

- Rutger Hauer exits Blade Runner

Tim Curry as Dr. Frank N. Furter, coming down the elevator in The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Greatest. Entrance. Ever.

I'm surprised that no one's mentioned Admiral Kirk's first entrance in TWOK. IIRC, the DVD commentary said that they reshot it with the backlighting to make it a grander entrance.

Superman's first official appearance in Superman, the Movie - ripping open his shirt and changing in the revolving door. Wonderful.

Orson Welles as Harry Lime caught in the spotlight in The Third Man -- the best entrance in the history of motion pictures.

Patrick McGoohan storming into his superior's office to resign in the opening credits of The Prisoner. That accompanying thunderclap - wow!

The first shot of Grace Kelly in Rear Window --

Marilyn Monroe in any movie she ever made.

Er, check out my previous post, back on page one of this thread . . .

Great character entrance:

Batman crashes through a partly frozen museum glassed dome, lands infront of his foe for the movie and says, "Hi Freeze, I'm Batman!" Best entrance ever. Cannot be topped.

How has no one mentioned Indy in Raiders?!

Thank you! I can't believe he wasn't mentioned earlier. I think that's one of the greatest movie entrances EVER.

Another favorite of mine is the previously Orson Welles as Harry Lime in The Third Man.

Cameron Diaz's entrance in The Mask was the hottest she ever looked. Then it quickly went downhill for her.
