Sometimes I hate the BBC...Spooks returns...

On Monday apparently, and I wonder when I'd have figured this out if I hadn't glanced at the front cover of the Radio Times in a newsagents yesterday! :klingon:

Publicity is as good as ever then

The BBC really need to realise it isn't the 1970s anymore and you can't guarantee that every household sees the Radio Times.

Except at Christmas, when everyone seems to buy it for some reason - Programme guide broken?

well its vital at christmas!

Well seen who at least one of the new cast members is and am now really looking forward to it starting (well in fairness I was anyway)

Wonder if this will be the last year?

Can't be getting any cheaper to make. The BBC are facing cuts like everyone else, it will be a big trade-off I suspect between dramas that pull in the viewers like Spooks and Who and the expense of making them.

Yeah but the trouble is that Spooks doesn't pull in the viewers so much anymore. I believe (could be wrong) that they were down to roughly 3 million viewers last year so I do wonder if this'll be the last series.

Who would really have to halve its viewing figures to be in danger I reckon.

What will be interesting will be seeing if the Beeb axe Waking the Dead and silent Witness, WTD especially given Trevor Eve ain't cheap.

I guess they have to finish spooks before 2012 or else nuke the Olympics in it

I meant to post a thread last week. After Trevor Eve bitching about the BBC promoting Doctor Who at the expense of "Proper" dramas it might be hard not to look petty axing it.

Last series of Spooks was around 5 million on average I think but it started off around 9m in series one.
I'm surprised it's not in HD yet though.

Maybe that was his plan...

Shame he said that cos I've always liked him as an actor, right back to Shoestring!

Spooks drew between 5-6 million in a new timeslot for the show getting about 20-25% of the audience share for the nights so not bad really. However this will most likely be it for the show because though it would be so nice to see the show reach 10 years. The monday slot will boost ratings though the lack of advertising won't help, hell I thought it didn't come back till October

I'd agree it isn't as good as it was, thought I thought it picked up again the last couple of seasons, but I still love it.

Dam I'm on afters.
I will be watching even though I think its been going down hill since series 5, it still better written than a lot of shows on TV.

God there's a name i have not heard in many years, maybe the BBC should bring Showstring back, it would be the perfect show for them to bring back now.

So who watched last night? I thought it was alright, but I can see myself tuning out before the end of the series again. I miss the days when they had small scale stories and not everything was a big conspiracy and they didn't do the "Retask the satellite" or "zoom, enhance" shite and it was more realistic.

*The below post contains Spoilers!*

Ah I still love the show, if only for Harry and Ruth. Actually they might be shaping up to having the best cast for a while now, I'll miss Ros but Sophia Myles' character looks interesting, and I'm assuming Demitri is a full time cast member too.

Not sure where they're going with Lucas, did "John" replace him in Russia, or was it before then? Interesting, if slightly ridiculous (but Spooks does it so well)

Man Gene Hunt's gonna be pissed off when he figures out what Harry did ;)

^Killing his brother?
I don't know, these ridiculous over the top convoluted plots seem more the stuff of American telly I prefer the smaller plots they used to have. Where's the BNP nutters and the group of idiots planning on bombing somewhere for some stupid reason.

Yes.

I guess the trouble is that over the years they've had to ramp up the storylines somewhat. I do hope they move away from the big conspiracy stuff, although I guess Nightingale is still out there.

I just wish they weren't always trying to blow London up, be nice if they saw a bit more of the UK!

I do wonder if Robert Gleniester's comments about Harry being a little person who'll never have a chance to change the world were throwaway or are leading somewhere?
