CAPTAIN AMERICA-shooting July 2010:Casting, Rumors, Pics till release

Re: CAPTAIN AMERICA-shooting July 2010:Casting, Rumors, Pics till rele

Jonny maybe you should start a thread so that we don't end up hijacking this one and post specific examples of these "monstrosity" costumes you speak of.

Not a bad idea, but I really don't want to start a thread just to bitch about it. I don't think it would do much other than start fights and get myself irritated.

So I'll restrain myself. :)

And honestly, I'm trying to be hopeful about the Captain America movie. I think Joe Johnson is a great choice for the director, and it's a pretty spectacular cast he's assembled. For me the two big question marks are the casting of the title character and the fact that they went with an Ultimates-esque look for the main costume. If those don't work for me, I know I'm going to have a really tough time enjoying the movie as a whole. But nothing would please me more than to be proven wrong.

Re: CAPTAIN AMERICA-shooting July 2010:Casting, Rumors, Pics till rele

Well for me the costumes are a minor thing, I'm more concerned about the script and acting. I'm eager to see a trailer. The designs that have been revealed so far would seem to indicate that the film is on the right track. Everything else is secondary to me at this point.

Spandex or rubber would just not work. It would be cheesy and hard to move in. I think his real world costume looks great. Similarly, I loved the Xmen movie costumes - can you imagine how hideous they'd have looked in comic-style outfits? So far, only Spiderman's comic costume has really worked for me. The other changes they've made have been fine. Well ok, Phoenix should have been given a decent outfit but she was barely a character so I'll let that pass.

The modern Batman costumes look good but restrict the actors' movements considerably. They're better off giving an acrobatic hero like Cap something sensible to wear.

^ Plus I think they need to go with something that looks like it could have been in existence in 1940. I like the one in the pics just fine.

Re: CAPTAIN AMERICA-shooting July 2010:Casting, Rumors, Pics till rele

We knew from the released artist renderings how the Cap costume was mostly going to turn out. Seeing it on this stunt double just adds a bit more of it all to how it hangs on the body.

Still, what I'm as curious about as ever is how the effect for Red Skull is going to come across. If they don't nail that look then how Cap looks will hardly ever be discussed again. Herr Skull has to look 'real'. Recall how much time they took getting Ghost Rider's flamming skull look right? Well this is going to have the actor involved so CGI is likely to be at a minimum. They better check in with Peter Jackson and some other creature guys for advice.

Skull is going to have to look good.

Hugo Weaving has experience with playing a character who wears a mask all the time (if they go for the Skull mask instead of making him deformed), so acting wise there's no doubts.

I'm soooo not worried about Hugo. He is one of my favorite actors this past decade. I was specifically talking about the look of the Red Skull.

Re: CAPTAIN AMERICA-shooting July 2010:Casting, Rumors, Pics till rele

I'm eager to see the look of the Red Skull as well. Acting won't be a problem at all.

Isn't spandex designed to be very easy to move in? Thats why dancers and acrobats use it. Hard to tell from those pictures how "acrobatic" this Cap will be. The suit doesn't seem geared for that sort of action and comes off a little bulky. (But maybe thats just the stunt guy). While I'm sure army fatigues ( which seems to be the look) were designed for a certain amount of freedom of movement , I dont know if acrobatics were part of it.

Painted abs???:wtf:

Spiderman looks ok in a skin-tight outfight; Captain America less so.

Re: CAPTAIN AMERICA-shooting July 2010:Casting, Rumors, Pics till rele

Cap's outfit shouldn't be skintight in the first place. It should have Kevlar armor or some kind of padding.

Re: CAPTAIN AMERICA-shooting July 2010:Casting, Rumors, Pics till rele

It doesn't have to be skintight, but it should be reasonably snug. This actually looks sloppy to me. Sorta like someone wearing a suit three sizes too big for him.

And I hate the brown boots and gloves. The flag is red, white, and blue; not red, white, and brown.
