Does it annoy anyone else that the makers of the episode "Charlie X" decided to cut the original scripted ending, where after Charlie's been taken by the aliens and Kirk tells a crying Janice Rand that it's all over now, Janice responds that she's not crying for herself, she's mourning for Charlie? I think it would have made the ending more moving and poignant if they'd kept that in.

It would have been a better ending. But then I think anything giving Janice more lies is a good thing.

It was probably cut because it wasn't needed. To me it's obvious that she is upset for Charlie and everything that has happened.

In the James Blish adaptation for "Charlie X", (called "Charlie's Law"), there is a scene following the destruction of the Antares in which Kirk berates Charlie for his cold-blooded attitude toward the Anatares' destruction and makes Charlie cry. I don't know if that was in the original script or not. The Blish adaptation does not have Rand saying anything at the end of the show.

I'm not sure that it would have made a better ending, sadly we will never know. These days, it would have been made and then stuck onto the DVD/BlueRay as an extra.

now if that scene existed i do wish it had been left in..
but perhaps moved to the end..kirk trying to get charlie to understand why he is so dangerous..

That has to be one of the saddest and most definitive of TOS endings...
