Things I've learned from watching TV and films...

People have more powers after death than they had when alive, especially if they were abused brutally right before they died.

You can jump from one space craft to another, while in the dead of space, with nothing more than your mouth shut, & only get a bit cold

I generally don't bother "correcting" things in this type of thread, even though there's tons of exceptions to all kinds of tropes, but this one bothers me because most people seem to think of the bit in 2001 where Dave goes from the pod to the docking bay without his suit. Clark and Kubrick went to great pains to ensure that this scene was as scientifically accurate as possible. You can do things like this. It won't be pleasant, your eyes/ears will likely bleed, a few other little things, but it can be done.

This was also backed up when Stargate did it, I think - a lot of fan backlash was sent to the producers about the bit in... Tangent I believe... where Teal'c and O'Neill are exposed to vacuum for several seconds. A defence was mounted in the commentary and a more extensive one online, as the scene was believable (especially since they went one step further than usual and didn't show them instantly recovered).

Having said that, Stargate got gradually worse with its depictions of vacuum and explosive decompression; lots of miming running-against-the-wind went on later.

That poker is not a game of chance, because their God given greatness the star character will win the pot.

The main character can walk out of any building in NYC, put up his arm to hail a cab and one instantaneously pulls over to pick him up (even if he's black.)

Unless it's raining and he/she is having a bad day. In which case, the taxi will zoom by, throwing up a huge splash of water in the process . . . . .

Don't forget they will have that flimsy newspaper to try and keep the rain off their head.

Just don't take a deep breath first.

* turning off a light often makes very little difference to the illumination of a room.

caves are always illuminated by something, whether it's torches, electric lights, luminescent mould or at worse, simply an eldritch glow.

Speaking of caves. When ever people are in a cave, a ledge with the hero will give away and the hero will fall but he will be able to catch onto a minute handhold one handed and be pulled up to safety or pull themselves up.

Regardless of the weather conditions, streets at night are always wet.

(Movie crews actually do routinely wet down streets for nighttime location shooting, even if the script doesn't call for rain. It makes the street look prettier and more dramatic.)

In India, a couple who don't like each other compress months of dating and relationship building into one 5 minute song and dance number.

You can drive across LA in ten minutes.
You can drive from Sacramento to the California desert in 2 hrs.

No matter the physical weakness or deformities of an evildoer he can always outlive his big, muscular henchman. The henchman must die first.
