After a quick spot-check of various locations, it seems to follow the FJ blueprints in many ways - but with a few modern updates (Warp coils in nacelles, multiple tubes leading to nacelles, etc).

Wow, after looking at the hi-res cover it does look like the TOS Enterprise has been redesigned by the TNG Production folks for this book. I suppose it works from a TNG continuity standpoint. I'll probably get it just to have it in my collection

Looks like it's based on the Drexler schematic (it was Doug Drexler's, right?) seen in the "Captain's Chair" CD-ROM and "In a Mirror, Darkly."

Yeah, looks like it's based on Drexler's cross section, but with some stuff from FJ thrown in to flesh out things that weren't on the Drexler centerline?

No, it'll have a TOS-esque "warp core", which is what it always had, even if we didn't have the terminology for it back then.

JJ & Co. don't want to be held to any preconceptions, not even their own. They won't be happy until South Park looks like a virtual Gibraltar of continuity by comparison.

EDIT: Sorry, I misread that as "except the JJ."

So it's confirmed for November...that's good. Interesting...no doubt this book will generate discussion and debate from technical enthusiasts for quite some time but since it's the closest thing we'll ever get to a technical manual i'll be getting it.

I asked Michael Okuda about his involvement with the book on his facebook page and he declined to comment or elaborate further on the book only said that it was interesting to work on and he looked forward to it coming out.
