Merlin series 3

Starkers I agree. I think it would be a great way to end the show with Arthur just saying 'oh the magic thing, knew all along!'

Have to agree also the dragon was seriously misused in Seasons 1 and 2. Either have him there in a critical one or two part episode or don't have him at all. literary keeping a dragon in the basement for the novelty and wow factor, come on. I really hope they go deeper with the characters now, have more characters, and let things go over a few episodes rather than contained to a measly 42 minutes.

I'm hoping in the end Merlin revealing he's magic to Arthur will be a bit like John Barrowman coming out that he was gay to his family.

"How stupid do you think I am, Merlin? I've known since episode 3!"

I can see their point, the entire premise of the show has been based around Arthur not knowing, and a lot of the humour in their relationship does stem from Arthur thinking Merlin is a bit of a dolt, but eventually they have to reveal all, or else make Arthur look as foolish as Lois Lane.

"Losis, I'm from the future and the people there have only one question. How stupid are you!"
The Producers used the Lois Lane argument since Lois has gone, years, hell decades (depending on what source) before discovering the truth.

So what did people think of the first episode? In many ways a lot darker, but they still had a lot of humour (You'd think Merlin would have seen the bucket gag coming...

I just wish
That Morgana wasn't so obviously evil whenever no one was looking...it felt a bit pantomime!

Obviously I was very glad to see one particular character's return :)

Absolutely! She even did 'the evil voice'! Doesn't she know what a giveaway that is? (ask Mitchell & Webb). ;)

Thought it was a decent return, darker as you say, but still had some Laugh out loud moments. Arthur's imitation of Merlin for instance. Yeah you're right about Morgana being so obvious it was kinda annoying. Does make me wonder how she's going to fit in the dynamic from now on though.

Next week's episode looks to be a cracker.

ha ha surely you mean ze evil voice?

I have to say though she is quite sexy when she's bad!

I don't see how she can remain in Camelot after this...recurring role from here on in? (hopefully with her sister!)

^Just hope she doesn't end up like the Sheriff in Robin Hood, easily beaten week after week and we're supposed to still consider her a threat.

Recurring bad guys can have that problem - it usually works a lot better if said bad guy's target is not directly our hero. That way our hero can lose sometimes for realism and threat presentation reasons.

Episode was far better then the start last year (far, far better), and the darkness and scope of the material was a nice change.

Nice to see the humor and banter between Arthur & Merlin is still there, but not in such an insulting manner (as the start of last year).

As for Morgana if she is still in Camelot after next week, I will be pissed. But just because she isn't there doesn't mean she can't be a majority of the episode. They could just use the time to better develop the "villains" of the show.

I liked that several things about the episode, the beginning, the referring to past events. To Merlin at least using magic on other things, instead of just thinking oh I can't use it on my bonds, I must be helpless.... And Bradley needs a shirtless scene at least once an episode.

was good.

bradley's said in an interview sometimes they'll e getting ready to film a scene and then the director suddenly comes in and says 'oh, the producers say you need to take your shirt off for this'...

How come they never do that with the women?

BC One's Merlin returned to screens to a healthy audience last night, according to early overnight data.

'The Tears Of Uther Pendragon: Part 1', the first episode of series three which saw Merlin saved by the Dragon Lord, averaged 5.58m (24.2%) between 7.25pm and 8.10pm.

Saturday night's opener was 500k up on last year's second series premiere rating for the family drama - despite airing against The X Factor.

Not bad then.

I'll be a bit disappointed if Morgana turns into a cardboard villain. I think she would work better as somebody with conflicted loyalties - sort of an Israel/Palestine conflict where nobody is 100% wrong or right. Up until now the pagans have been victims of Uther's opression and Morgana was gradually turned into a terrorist figthing for their rights. Making her downright evil, voice and all, will oversimplify the situation.

Yes I'd rather she wasn't completely evil, at least not right away. Lets face it, Uther isn't a good man!

Having said that I've said before that it'd be really interesting to see them do a time travelling episode to show what the place was like before Uther's purges.

Uther's not an entirely evil man either. sure he may be harsh, but they way Gaius tells it, there were some seriously evil bastards around...

not that that justifies drowning little kids...
