WoW - Musings & Discussion

I use the email address "seanpfoster@gmail.com" on Real ID if anyone wants to add me on Battle.net/World of Warcraft.
Oh noez, Real ID, we're all gonna get harassed/demoted/fired because our bosses/friends/family members are going to find out we play video games

This thread has been inactive for almost a month, and with all the Cataclysm information that's been pouring out? For shame!

A possible release date has been leaked for Cataclysm 4.0: November 18th, with the pre-Cata patch 3.9 coming mid to late September.

I'm less inclined to believe the 3.9 date, I think that will end up being pushed back to around Blizzcon in October, maybe a month or so before 4.0 hits.

Unless Blizzard is doing something different this time around, 4.0 and Cataclysm are distinct events. So there should be three release dates:

3.9 (1-60 content, class/race combos, Cataclysm/Deathwing events)
4.0 (game systems, i.e. talents/abilities/mechanics/etc.)
Cataclysm (80-85 content, Worgen/Goblins)

So I guess depending on if the gnome/troll events take place in the new or old gnomeregon/echo isles, that will determine if they happen before or after the cataclysm.

I guess I should have said 4.0.1? I suppose I should never underestimate the ability of people on the Internet to nitpick.

No doubt how the 3.9 patch goes will play into exactly when phase two (3.9.x or 4.0) will be put into motion before the Cataclysm release. The big dates are 3.9 (the reshaping of the old world/cataclysm event) and the box release date (the true beginning of the Cataclysm expansion with 80-85 content), and that's what the article is discussing.

Who pissed in your cheerios?

And don't look now, but 4.0 - like 2.0 and 3.0 before it - is just as significant as 3.9 and, for that matter, Cataclysm itself.

Well, I can't speak for everyone else, but there's not much to talk about for me at the moment. I basically just watch the Beta coverage over at cynicalbrit.com (www.youtube.com/totalhalibut), and while it looks like it's going to be the best expansion yet, it's been over four years since anything relating to WoW has really enthused me.

I reactivated my account, so if anyone wants to play on Runetotem I am down. I am sort of just spinning my wheels until 3.9 hits later this month.

^ I'll definitely check out Cata (already preordered), but I don't see the point in reactivating my account earlier - oh and I play EU side anyway (yay for superfluous server segregation!).

interesting stuff. i imagine one might reactivate to see any launch event stuff, or take one last look around.

^ Yeah, it'll definitely be worth checking out, even for players with Vanilla accounts - they'll get tons of leveling content for free.

Edit: By the way, here's a nice, compact 45-minute video presentation about Cataclysm, if you're interested. TotalBiscuit's style takes some getting used to, but I find him highly entertaining (have been listening to his podcast for the last four years).

I'm pretty much in pre-expansion apathy mode at this point. I still log in for raid night but even those haven't been firing regularly, except Tuesdays.

I am wondering if I should stay on Coilfang?

Thoughts on this?

I just finished putting the finishing touches on a new PC so I wanted to test it out. Looks like I reactivated just in time.

^ Be sure to take advantage of the Beta opt-in with your b.net account if you want to do some testing.

At the moment they're periodically give out relatively small amounts of keys, but sooner or later, it's going to be semi- to fully public (as they always did with their Betas).

I've been playing here and there. With the number of hours I was working up until a few weeks back, I've been less inclined to spend what free time I had playing WoW. Plus, I've got a rather huge backlog of console games and movies/shows on Blu-Ray to get through.

I've been leveling a druid here and there with my brother and his friend. I've also been doing the occasional bg and gearing up some of my alts. I have way too many characters between being out of work 8 months last year and RAF. My druid is almost 79 and will be my 6th level 80. I need to cut down what I play to one or two. I'm trying to decide between my paladin and warrior for my main for Cataclysm, and then pick one of my other alts to also work on here and there.

As far as Cataclysm goes, I'm generally excited about it. From some of the videos I've seen, the new areas all look great. But I'm still kind of leery about some of the class changes. I'd love to get an invite to see some of them in action, especially Holy Power.
